Update & Web Sites

Monday, December 20th, 2004

Hi Everyone!
I have an update. My consult date has been moved from June 23 to May 28
with Dr. Suh. I have lots of questions to ask that I feel only a surgeon
could answer, not a nurse. So that’s great news. I have found some web
sites relating to WLS that I thought I would share with all of you.
www.wlscenter.com
www.obesitylaw.com - Walter Lindstrom is a WLS attorney [who had wls
himself]. For those of you who are fighting insurance companies etc. This
site will come in handy. Good luck to all of you.

WAITING!!!!

Sunday, December 19th, 2004

Okay, I thought waiting for the doc appointments, paperwork, and
insurance approval were brutal. Waiting for the day of surgery is
ten times worse. I got my date, July 19! Could they have made it
any further away? On the one hand, I’m very grateful that I’ve made
it this far, but 66 days, I know this is going to drive me nuts!!!

NIH consensus statement

Sharon,

Thanks for that. I knew that osteoporosis, and anemia can be long
term complications to the surgery, but was unsure if this was due to
malabsorption of calcium, or iron, or a result of non-compliance of the
patient’s vitamin regimine. Now I know. Whew!

New here! Surgery date of Aug. 28

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

I can’t wait my surgery is on Aug. 28, 2002. My life is going to
change. I am 22 years old. I weigh 255. I am 5′2". I started thinking
about having this surgery around the end of last summer. I got the
ball rolling in January when I decided to do something. My last diet
had a really ba effect on me. Idid the Atkins diet. I had lost 30
pounds. Then came Thanksgiving and I lost it. By new years I gained
40 pounds. I was very depressed and fed up. I had to make a change. A
big one. So, thats when I made the decision to change my life. I am
very excited that my surgery is so close. If anyone can offer me any
advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Considering VGB and I’m new here

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

I’m 5′3” and have a BMI of 46 too.

I was 28 years old when I started nursing school. At that time I weighed
about 250lbs. I’m 42 years old now and weigh 277. I Sylvester the cat after
that dog pulls him through a knot hole in a fence after a shift at work. At
28 years 250 may not seem like much, but in 15 years it’ll kick your butt.

I founded and managed an HIV clinic which obviously was not as hard. But it
wasn’t as rewarding either. I had other opportunities in management, but I
got into nursing to be with patients. I’m home with the kids now.

My surgery is set for 5/23 and I’m looking forward to tying my own shoes.
