under the knife

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Hi everyone,

Wish me luck and say a prayer. I am going in tomorrow at 2:00 for
surgery. Can’t wait. I am surprisingly not nervous. I think the
hardest thing will be being away from my kids for a week. Anyway, I
will keep everyone posted on my results!

Question Time

Sunday, February 20th, 2005

Hey Everyone,

Question time. I have been feeling GREAT, no problems at
all…however, this week I have been feeling "off", not really sick,
just "off"….not sure what it is…I have a funny "metal" taste in
my mouth…..Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sharon

Maureen,

I had the roux-en-Y in Pasadena, CA with Dr. Lourie’. I had no
complications except that I required pepcid 2x a day for 20 days.

are a little slow getting that stuff out.

Hi.

I am a new member and this is my first post. I am 38 years old,
have high blood pressure, have had knee surgery, currently weigh
267, am 5′6" and have a BMI of 43. Over the past 6 years I have
tried Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Xenical and Adkins without
long term success. (I have lost more money than weight) My biggest
problem is I would lose 20 pounds, reach a plateau and would not
continue to lose and after a month or so of this I would give up on
the diet. I am active, I practice martial arts (2nd degree brown
belt in Tae Kwon Do), I try to exercise at least 30 to 60 minutes a
day, 5 days a week, and while I do not follow a perfect diet (if I
want to have a muffin, I have a muffin), I do eat in moderation. I
am now considering a surgical weight loss proceedure and want to
know from the group what their experience was. I am looking into a
laproscopic F&Y proceedure, for which my doctor said I am a good
candidate. I would like to know about exercise afterwards, would I

Does anyone ever go into the chat room?

AUGUST 19th - Consultation Date!!!!!!!!!!! : )

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

That seems like forever!!! I know I will just go crazy waiting!! I’m
also sooooo nervous, when I talked to the girl @ the surgeons office
& she asked what my ht./wt. was, she said my BMI was only 38.7!! I
told her I got 39.1 online & my Dr. got 40.3 when he figured it
hisself. So, NOW, I will really worry that I will be denied!! How
can you get 3 different BMI’s off the SAME #’s??? She did say that I
sound like a good candidate w/ my bad knees & family history.
BUT, I went ahead & spent an hour & a half typing out an appeal
letter just in case!! LOL. Am I prepared or what?!? LUV YA’LL!!

thanks, everyone!

<< According to the chart he gave me we can find protein in a lot of foods.
Broccoli and mushrooms are high in protein. Pork shoulder, rump roast,
cottage cheese, ricotta and lamb chops are very high in protein. >>

Thanks to everybody who responded about the protein problem…
I just have to find what i can tolerate. I’m not supposed to eat ham, beef or
pork till i’m 6 months post-op.
I don’t know why, since it seems that all of you are eating these things
right away!
