surgery date Aug 29th!

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

My name is Marie, 43 yrs old, 245 lbs. I am having lap RNY on Aug
29th in Coos Bay, OR. I have 4 co workers who have had same surgery.
Great support. I am excited. I know that it is going to be hard at
first but I’m ready. My insurance approved me really quickly! I am
very grateful to God for this procedure.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

My son had this surgery on July 11, for the past 3 days he has not
been able to eat or drink anything and keep it down. Even water
makes him vomit. He is taking the smallest sips and it still makes
him sick. Icalled his doctor Friday and his nurse talked withthe
doctor and basically what he said was that happens and if he can
still urinate he was ok. I wish I knew more about the (normal)
things about the vomiting and when it becomes something I should
really be concerned about

Carol in CA

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

In Southern CA after your PCP has referred you for a barriatric consult you
will have a choice of having the surgery at a group in San Diego called
Pacific Clinics (Ibelieve) or at UCLA. I have a friend who went for her
first appt in late June and got her December date 3 weeks later. If you are
going to do it get the ball rolling cuz once you decide the waiting will be
agonizing and fattening (I understand from my group that most people put on
10-20 lbs during a 1 month wait).

If you want to do your own in depth research you can use the google search
engine and look up "free medline" (It’s really not free if you find an
article you want, but if you do just go to your closest medical library to
pull the article). On medline look up barriatric surgery, or the specific
surgery you are interested in.

Good luck,

2 GREAT WEBSITES!!

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

I found 2 great websites. They both have some recipes. One has
protein shake recipes, and the other has some free online recipes and
she also has a recipe book for the Gastric Bypass patient, that I
believe sells for about $19.99 (I am not 100% sure of price).

I hope that these will help someone…. I am just starting to figure
out what I will be able to eat and what I can’t… I am still Pre-OP,
but am trying to get prepared!!!

New to WLS concept

Monday, March 28th, 2005

I am new to your group and a little nervous. My doctor thinks that I
am a good candidate for WLS, which I’ve been considering for quite a
while. Before I give him my decision, he wants me to get online and
do some more research to further clarify what we discussed. That is
how I found this wonderful website. I have decided to go for it, but
have several questions that weren’t answered in my research. What
better way is there to find out how things really are than by asking
the EXPERTS (those of you who have gone through and are still going
through the process)? I know that my first step is to fill out an
application with Kaiser Permanente, my medical provider. But after
that I have no idea what comes next. What other steps are there
leading to the actual surgery? Kaiser does the RNY procedure, but I
don’t know if it is laproscopic or through an open incision. Who
decides which is appropriate? I don’t anticipate any insurance
problems as my Kaiser doctor recommended the surgery. I would expect

Friend had surgery…..

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post and let some of you know about a friend of mine
that will probably be joining the group. He is one of those type
that is macho so it may take me a while to get him to sign up but I
think he will really benefit from all of the info we all recieve from
everyone here. He had his gastric bypass two weeks ago and he looks
great. It was the first surgery that he has ever had and he was sooo
scared. Cracks me up how a macho man can be such a baby when it
comes to something that is going to hurt. Anyway all is good with me
and doing great. I am getting tired of the same ol foods all the
time, does anyone know of some good recipes or a place to look online
for recipies?? Would appreciate them! THANKS!!

Smiles,
