I don’t think there is anything you mentioned that is outside his scope of
practice. You don’t need to report him, you just need to find a better doc.

My referral visit

Monday, March 21st, 2005

I am so mad it isn’t funny.I went to see my PCP for a referral to
DR.OTTEMAN for my bypass surgery and I was astound at my PCP
response. He told me that I am making a terrible mistake. He went on
futher to tell me that the surgery consists of them removing cutting
a part of my stomach out and,get this,Throwing it in the garbage.I he
said that he can GUARANTEE,yes GUARANTEE I will have stomach problem
for the rest of my life, when I go through the "change of life"(I’m 30)
my body won’t be able to handle it because my nerves will be so
screwed up from not having all of my stomach,I will always have
diarrhea, gas and will ALWAYS BE SICK. The final kicker in his
analysis was, when I allow this person to cut me open and whack me,the
surgeon won’t do anything else for me because his job is done,I WILL
BE DUMPED ON HIM TO MAY ME AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE. He didn’t
mention any names but he went on to tell me that he has 10 patients
who have had this surgery and are living in misery and I will be next

my surgery date& Question

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

hello everyone,
I have only posted here once or twice because i’m not much for
working on computers so thats probly why you all haven’t heard much
from me but i just thought that i would let everyone know that i have
an surgery date which is on november 8th a couple of weeks before
thanksgiving and more weeks away from christmas and i was wondering
has anyone else had this surgery before the holidays. The reason im
asking that is because that is usely the time when i pig out and i
also do the cooking for the family. So how do you deal with that all
that food and sweets and see everyone enjoying there self and me not
eating or eating very litte of something else. Dont get me wrong i am
very much looking forward to having this surgery and can’t wait and
it seems a very long long time before i have it and i was just hoping
that someone has felt the same way and how do you handle it.
Thanks,

Digest Number 132

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

Hi I just joined you site. Any one her have the Lap band done? I am looking into
this surgery. I have been researching for about 2 mos now, and feel it is right
for me. For information on any WLS (weight loss surgery) you can type weight
loss surgery into your search, and it will pull up information on every kind of
WLS available. www.obesityhelp.com is a great spot to get information. There is
also www.spotlighthealth.com where you can find good information. I would have
to agree that what kind of surgery you have is individual based on what will
work best for you.

Please tell me about the surgery

Thursday, March 17th, 2005

Please someone or more than one tell me about the surgery. I am 320
lbs. I hate it. I can move. I can’t seem to stay on a diet
anymore. I guess I’ve just love the heart to keep punishing myself.
I’m more than intimidated about thinking about having the surgery. I
swore the last time a doctor operated on me and cut my bow. That I’d
never go back for surgery again unless it was life threatening. This
is no life and I feel now like I really have no hope unless I do
something more drastic. I’ve had people tell me how bad it was and I
would lose control of my bowels and have vomiting, etc. I had a
friend tell me her daughter had it so bad that (vomiting) that the
drs had to go back in and reattach her stomach like it was before the
surgery. I have heard anymore. But, I sure would like to here some
first hand accounts of how some of you are doing. Where did you have
the surgery? Should I go to a major university hospital for it like
Johns Hopkins? I heard there was an excellent hospital in New York

re introduction

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

Hi
My name is chrissy i live in houston and am getting approval for
surgery by Neweigh. I used to have bcbs hmo blue texas insurance but
they denied me do to a written exclusion policy. I now have Cigna
healthcare POS and we are about to appeal. The insurance needed
verification that I have been morbidly obese for 5 years and that I
have a least tried 2 medically supervised diets. One within the last
2 months. I feel like giving up sometimes but I know this is the
best thing for me. I wanted to post so I can let everyone know that I
am available now to give and receive support. I know it is a long
journey. And I am grateful for groups such as these. Let me know if
I can help anyone.

Today’s Doctors visits

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

alright, so today i go for my 1 month pre-op appts. expecting for everything
to go ok. well they didn’t. first, I had an ultrasound for my gallbladder.
The radiologist found a cyst on my right kidney. so, now i have to have a CT
scan of my kidney’s to make sure that everything is still ok. I am so upset
with all of this. Right when you are coming into the home stretch(surgery
date of Aug. 28) you think nothing else can go wrong then you have this
spring up on you. I just needed to vent to somebody. Thank you all for
listening.
