I’m New and I just got a date
Hi everyone. I am new to this group. Have been reading for a while
though but have never posted. After almost 9 months of waiting I
finally have a date and it is Nov. 26. May I ask for support and
prayers from the group? I am both excited and nervous. Keep waking
up during the night and having difficulty sleeping. Hope this is
normal. Does anyone have any pre-op suggestions that will make my
hospital stay and home recup go more smoothly? I will be pretty much
on my own following surgery. My husband will help out but he works
shifts so I will have to do a lot on my own. After such a long wait
this seems just unbelievable.!!!

I had my surgery done laproscopically and managed OK on my own while hubby
and son were at work and school. You’ll need help with the laundry and
grocery shopping for a week or so, but after that it’s kind of nice to be
able to start doing things on your own. The laundry and house will keep. Be
sure you have a nice comfy recliner that you’ll be able to get out of on
your own as that seems to be a problem for many. I slept in my recliner for
a couple of weeks because it was so hard to get out of bed without hurting.
I also used my heating pad on my stomach for a couple of weeks. The warmth
seemed to help relax everything going on in my stomach.
Good luck!

Hi,
Congrats on your date. I know how you feel. My surgery in Nov.7th
and I have been waking up alot at night and just laying there a
thinking. But my life is going to so much more better after this.
And I just keep reminding myself of that. Good luck to you and God
Bless.

Hi again everyone. Thanks for all the support. as you can imagine I
am getting quite nervous. Well nervous and excited both I think. I
will have an RNY at UPMC in Pittsburgh Pa. with Dr. Schauer. He hopes
to do the procedure lap but says he will have to wait to see when he
has me on the table because of previous surgerys. This seems like a
very supportive group and I am happy to be a member.
Can anyone suggest any other support groups on the net?
Thanks,
craftygal

Congratulations on the Nov.26th date! I’m Dec.3rd - starting to get a
little nervous but more excited and can’t wait. Really can’t wait
for the addiction to be forced to end - I am trying but truly
addicted - can’t stop eating - anyway, it will be better soon. Best
of Luck to you - It really seems to help following others progress!
All the best!

WOW what a small world. Were you at his support group meeting
tonight? I was there. I’m just starting the process and I’m a new
patient of Dr. Hamad (at least I hope - I submitted my paper work
today) Anyway I was the woman in jeans and a black shirt. I asked
a question at the end about anemia and b12.
Good Luck. Are you having their new staged procedure or the full
rny? I’m full of questions tonight.

a revision from a failed VBG to an rny. Haven’t heard about his new
procedure–maybe you could fill me in.

Sorry I haven’t been here for a while. Anyway it seems and I don’t
really completely understand it but in higher risk cases Dr.
Schauer’s team has been splitting the surgery into two parts.
Usually doing the stapeling of the stomach first. then after the
weight drops and there are fewer comorbid conditions going back and
doing the bypass of small intestines. However, Im really confused
about HOW they do that.

I don’t know about Dr. Courcoulis, however, when I was at that
meeting last week for Dr. Schauer and Dr. Mattar they had a web cast
of it and were taking questions from the web as well as the
attendees.
