researching

hi. My name is jason, i’m 30 yrs old, and 320 lbs. My health is
pretty good, but my family history is setting me up for some nasty
problems in the future, if I don’t do something now. I’ve tried all
the fad diets, with the typical yo-yo results. I’ve finally decided
to seriously look into surgery. I’m looking for any advice, and
upside and downsides to this. I AM a nurse, so I know the risks of
surgery, But I also know the risks of living obesely. Please post
some stories I can learn from. Thank you.

    Hi, Jason…
One place where people have lots of stories already out is on the
www.obesityhelp.com site. You have to "join" the Association for the
Morbidly Obese or something, but that really doesn’t mean or do
anything. Lots of excellent stories, plus histories, plus info about
    docs and insurance companies.

    Hi Jason,

I too did a lot of research before deciding to have surgery. It is a
big step. I am scheduled for LAP-RNY on Nov. 26–and am very excited
after waiting so long. Read everything you can to familarize yourself
with the procedure. Investigate doctors and go with one you trust. My
best to you–you are wise to take this step now before your health
suffers. I have a 30 yr. old son that is obese and my prayer will be
that he too will one day consider this life saving surgery. I worry
daily that I will lose him. I am hoping that when he sees my good
results he will be more interested.

Take care and let us know as you investigate further.

    Hello Jason,
Well even if your family did not have problems being
obese will certainly add to some new ones and I think you are going on the
right track. I have been big since I got married and that was
about 15 years ago and I have tried many pills that promised me results and
all I got was disapointed, I have tried Meridia, Zenical, and many over the
counter drugs but all I did was lose a few to gain twice as much back,, So I
did my home work with the Gastric Bypass surgery and went threw 6 months of
testing and got my surgery date and it was October 15th and I lost a total of
69 pounds as of today, It was the smartest decision that I have ever made
cause now I feel better with each passing day and I know that in time and
alot of work I can be healthy and finally Happy. BUT you need the support of
your family and friends to make this work! it is a wonderful 2nd chance for
a good and healthy life! good luck in your decision and god bless you.
    Debbie
