5 years post op

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Hi, I am new to this group. I had my gastric bypass surgery 5
years, 2 months ago. I too am having a weight gain problem. I went
from 290 to 175 , now I am back up to 193. I refuse to see 200
again. I wear size 16 , sometimes 18. I hate to exercise and eat
mostly carbs.
I read recently that increasing your protein will help control
those carb cravings. They just go down so easy. I still have
problems with meat, rice, gravies and other high fat foods. Chips
and chocolate go down way to easy. I am going to get some Designer
Protein and start having 1 or 2 shakes a day. 30 grams of protein
per shake should help. I understand the comfort food thing. Mine
isn’t cream soups , its a hot cup of cappuccino in the late
afternoon. Both empty calories. I have to get my eating back in
order before its to late. I go back for my 6 months checkup in
another month and would really like to see the 180’s again.

Breast Sagging

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Has anyone heard about or used Mamrälin-ARa to prevent the breast from getting
small or sagging when dieting or after surgery?

On the other side!!!!

Monday, August 29th, 2005

Well guys, I’m SOOO happy to be on the other side - thanks to all who
supported: Shelley, Gloria, Susan, Pam, Yvonne - everyone!!
WHERE IS BETTINA?? - We both had surgery Jan 2 - I came home today -
HAS SHE SHOWED YET???
Anyway - Surgery was supposed to take 2 hrs with the gallbladder and
took almost four!!! My Dr. is the best! Said it was CHALLENGING!
Scartissue from gallbladder problems and 2 C-sections.
I thanked him for not cutting me open - I really wanted LAP for
recovery time.
A few ?’s:
1) Gurgling sounds through my stomach, loud, is this normal?
2) Very soft, runny bowel movements (Sorry)
3) 2 sips of soup or water is enough at one time - is this ok?
4) Slight burning sensation at one incisional site - the one that was
packed - and is kind of melting back together?

RNY - 4 years post op…

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

Hello Everyone;

I haven’t posted on here in a few years, but it’s only been in the
last few months that I’ve had to start looking for support again.

The reason I’m posting now is because I want to let those of you
know, who are pre-op, there is more to this surgery than meets the
eye. I went into this surgery with ‘dreams of a skinny Becky’
floating through my mind. The ‘work’ end of it never *REALLY* was
given a second thought. Working at keeping my weight off was
something I was obviously never good at anyway. Controlling the hand
to mouth motion wasn’t anything I was good at either.

So, here I am - 4 years and 4 months post-op and I’ve actually gained
15 lbs back. Not that I ever reached my goal weight. At 5′7" a size

I’m a newbie to your group :)

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

Hi everyone,
I just found this group tonight and wanted to say hi. I am going for
consultation on Jan. 8th for my surgery and I am excited but very
scared at the same time. I think I’m more scared of what and who I
will become when the wall of fat is no longer there to protect me.
Did anyone of you experience anything like that before ,during, or
after your surgery?

Opti-fast woes!

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

I have a scheduled surgery date of February 4th. I can’t wait…
the problem is I have to be on Opti-fast 6 weeks prior to the
surgery per this surgeons protocal. Did anyone else have to be on
Optifast prior as well? If so, did you think it was a benefit to
your surgery? I can’t complain to much…. I have lost 18.5 pounds
in 2 1/2 weeks, But, insurance doesn’t cover the cost of the opti-
fast and it is $1600 for the 6 weeks. Thanks, Julie

Lap Band Surgery

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

I am interested in anything anyone has on lap band surgery. I have
done some research online and my head is swimming! I am considering
it, but am a little fearful. It is so great to find a group like
this one!

Virus’s again

Monday, August 15th, 2005

Ok we are going to try this once more, I hope. We have been tracking
those sending Klez to the list, the list ownership, and other members
of the list.
The good news is we have it down to about 10 people. The bad news is
those 10 people send a lot of email to me ;)
I will be contacting each of you individually in the next day or two
to offer some assistance. In some cases you may not be infected. One
of the problems with Klez is that it can forge part of the header. I
am cross-referencing several pieces of information in the header to
try and narrow this down. Let me appologize in advance if I send you
an email and was wrong.

For everyone else, here are a few useful URL’s. Three are online
virus scanning tools, the last is a list of specific virus removal
