That's awesome. I know how excited you must be. It won't be long now and you
will be on the other side.

Our's has "just started" paying for this type of surgery. So, I feel I am
blessed to get the permission.
To my knowledge, I will be the third person in our county that has had it
done. I know of 2 other people that went out of the county because they
did not "trust" the doctors here and they had to pay out of their own
pockets.

I am a-grinnin'

Maybe I should try and see . . .but I have already received the approval
and they did turn me down the first time. Well, maybe I had check into it
but something is better than nothing. And surely it will work . .

I've never heard of an insurance company only paying for the Lap band. In my
case, like Michelle, my insurance company would only pay for an open RNY.

My insurance wouldn't pay for the lap band. Anthem considers is
experimental. Which was fine by me, I wanted to have RNY or BBP. Since I
preferred to have a local surgeon, I went with RNY.

*grin* After you find your toes again, make sure you get regular pedicures!
They feel like heaven on earth (ok, I like having my feet rubbed...lol!)

The binding garments are generally worn after reconstructive surgery (or
before it). I don't know of anyone who's had to wear a binder from a lap
band. I don't know how many incisions you'd have, but it can't be that
many. (I had lap RNY and had 6 small incisions.)

Hello kim!!

What doctor told you that you would not be healthy?? You need a new doctor. I
was banded, which I would recommend over the RNY, just 3 days ago and I feel
fine. Of course there is some pain involved in the surgery process, but it is
nothing compared at the pain of carrying a body twice the size it should be. I
personally know 4 people oher than myself that have had the surgery and NONE
would go back and not have it. You will have a lot of mixed feelings and hear a
lot of different opinions from people when they find out what you are aspiring
to do, but you just have to keep your head up and think about the lon term.

Theresa

HI!
My name is Kim I am thinking about getting this RNY surgery done, if I
<!--more-->
go for it ,it will be late fall.
I weight 285 at this time .I work as a nures aide at a hospital on a
med/surg floor, some days I feel like I cant keep up, I also like to go
hiking with the Boy Scouts , and Girl Scouts.
And I have all the health problems that come with being over weight.
I do know if I have this done I know I would be better off in the long run
I'll be" 39" in September.
I have been over weight my whole life. I dont know any other way.
the Dr. said if Ihave this done Iwont be heathy ,well I'm not now!
I know I need this. I know this is going to be done.
I need to change my life or I am going to die

Kim writes
I know I need this. I know this is going to be done.
I need to change my life or I am going to die

I think many of us have come to this realization. I'm always amazed at
people who seem to think we took the easy way out. It's not. It comes after
years of failure, and facing our devils, and even today, the work to do the
program is not easy.

But it comes with a knowledge that we've taken responsibility for our lives
and are actively working on achieving health in a way many people who
flounder for years have not done. I think we're all to be congratulated!
