I’m a newbie to your group :)

Hi everyone,
I just found this group tonight and wanted to say hi. I am going for
consultation on Jan. 8th for my surgery and I am excited but very
scared at the same time. I think I’m more scared of what and who I
will become when the wall of fat is no longer there to protect me.
Did anyone of you experience anything like that before ,during, or
after your surgery?

Hi, Janzee, welcome to the list. Having lost 100 lbs in 1990, I’d
already faced that bugaboo, and discovered I was basically the same,
just more driven <G>. I got a lot of attention I hadn’t gotten in a
while, but it wasn’t all bad <G>. Now I am expecting that with all the
gray hair I won’t be noticed as much, but am so looking forward to being
able to move comfortably and to have my energy return!

I think those are all normal thoughts before surgery. Especially, being
scared. Even for a couple of days following surgery, I kept thinking "why
couldn’t I have done this on my own?" But, then I quickly came back to
reality and knew I’d be dead if I didn’t do something about my weight and I
knew that I HAD tried every way imaginable to lose weight in the past. Be
comforted in the fact that after surgery you have no more guilt about knowing
you should be losing weight but aren’t. When I think about how much time I
spent feeling like that I can really enjoy having a clear mind now and not
    obsessing about trying to lose.

My lap surgery was done 9/17/02 and I’ve lost about 72 pounds. I’ve had a
couple of times that I second guessed my decision, but it was momentary when
I felt like taking a big bite of one of my favorite foods (grouper sandwich
down in Florida), or a nice juicy burger at home. The funny thing is that I
can usually satisfy that urge by taking a small bite, and actually be more

satisfied when I’m done with my measly little bit of food, than I used to be
when I ate the whole thing.

Good luck with your decision. I’m sure you will feel better, just like I do.
I have a lot more weight to go, but at least now I feel like I have a
fighting chance of losing a respectable amount of weight.

    Cheryl…

Thank you so much for sharing with me….Your story sounds so familar
to me and its nice to know that a clear mind is one of the things
that I can look forward to…I have been frustrated for the longest
time by all the indecision that takes place in my head….It’s taken
me almost 3 yrs to actually get to the point of committing to having
    the surgery….
Again, thanks for your honesty and best of luck in your future….

Sounds like me. I thought about surgery even before Carnie Wilson had hers. I
kept waiting for LAP surgery and held out until my surgeon said that was the way
he would do it. At least by taking so long to make the decision, I was
absolutely ready for it, knowing that I had tried everything else. I was a
    little nervous, but not scared.
