Deleting before sending
To all,
I don’t want to sound self-righteous or condescending, but there is a small
thing that each and all of us should do to make this list more readable.
When you reply to a message, do two things. First, delete all of the
message to which you are replying. Hit control-a (command-A on a Mac) and
hit backspace. Then type your reply in.
If you have noticed how many times we read the same message again and again,
and again………….. that is why. If everyone would delete the message
to which they are replying (whether it is the digest, or individual
messages, it would be much less confusing and pleasant to read. Also, you
should type a new subject in your message before sending.
I am sure most people don’t know to do that, and don’t think about the
consequences of replying to a digest message and leaving all that came
before it.
Anyway,

Danny, when people are replying to a message, it’s always preferable if
they will leave at least a few sentences of the previous message so that
we will know what they’re talking about. (see my example below) For
sure, delete anything that is not related. But if you delete all the
message, then the response frequently hangs out there and we don’t know
what it relates to. I totally agree about not allowing the full digest
to append to your message.
As to putting in the new subject, that should be done if you are typing
about a new subject. However, if you are responding to a message, and
staying with that subject, the subject line should stay the same.
