I’m New to Our Group

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year:
I have been reading the post messages and feel good about being a
part of this group. I have been waiting for a year and a half to get
the rny. I have had several disappointments from the beginning. My
Doctor’s office losing my chart and then losing my tests results.
Finally in Sept/02 my approval came through. I immediately called
UCLA for my appointment and decided on the open procedure. My appt
with my surgeon was for 1/23/03, I was jazzed, scared and worried all
at the same time. In the last past few weeks, I have called to
confirm my appt and was wondering when to expect my surgery packet.
Well, with the luck I have had, UCLA could not find me in their
system! No appt, no referral, etc. Not again……..I said over in
my head, I felt like a lost puppy and felt discouraged and started
feeling that all the bad luck I’ve had were probably signs not to
procede with getting healthy by having WLS. Well, after crying and

almost giving up. The program coordinator phoned and gave me a new
appt for Feb 6th and I received the packet yesterday. Gee, I didn’t
know what to feel after that. I had been looking for something to
read and found a book that gave me this website for support. So, here
I am………
I am excited and I know that my life is going to change and I am
ready for the ups and downs but am totally scared. I have a husband
and son who are very supportive. I weigh under 400 and more than 350
and am 5′4". I have back and knee problems due to my weight and can’t
wear a seatbelt sometimes. Boy I can really go on. I wanted to say
that reading some of the post messages I feel that I will have more
support from all of you and want to "Thank you" in advance for
opening your hearts to me as well.

    Hello Everyone,
I am also new to this group, and I am very happy for you (can’t remember
your name) on your appointment date, WAY TO GO GIRL!
I have a question and hopefully someone can shed some light on it for me.
Is it possible to have the LGB (laposcopic gastric banding) performed when
you still have a partial VGB (vertical gastric banding)? Partial being that
I still have the staple portion of the operation, with the band removed due
to complication. I thought the laposcopic procedure would be more suitable
because of scare tissue build up on my abdominal area.
I know there is a lot more to tell about my Weight Loss Surgery experiences,
but if anyone has an answer for me, I am anxious to know. I am writing from
Northern Alberta, Canada, and there are only so few Bariatric Surgeons in
the West. But if I know that this procedure is possible considering my
condition, I would be willing to go East for help.

and friends call me Juani for short.
Pam, I totally believe what you said about things happening in God’s
time not ours. I just happen to forget it sometimes and need
reminding. Thank you again for the support

    Hi Carolyn,

It is so great opening up my email and hearing from you and the others in the
group. I look forward to it everyday. I finally have something good to be
excited about and am so happy that we can all relate and understand what we
are going through. Have a greast day and we will talk again.
