New too, kind of
Hi,
I am relatively new here too. I have been reading here for months,
but haven’t really written anything. I am preop, scheduled for
surgery on May 12. Just waiting my turn. My friend at work had a
laparoscopic RNY Today. Stopped to see her on my way out of work
today and she was very tired and sore, but in good spirits. Can’t
wait til it’s my turn.
My hubby is also having wls, but insurance denied him last week. He
was planning on a AGB, but they won’t cover it, so looks like he’s
switching to RNY because they will cover that.
I really enjoy the posts here and use this group as a support while I
wait. So say HI if you want. See ya..

Hi, Robin, welcome out of the closet! <G> We’re glad to have you
online. My RNY was lap, also, and went very well. I am losing a bit
slower, but am not worried about it all. I think that in the old diet
days I would have obsessed. Now I eat, protein first, and try to get my
water in. (I will admit that water and exercise are my two bugaboos
<sigh>).

HI Phil,
So far as we can tell, the reason why he was not
approved was because the AGB is so new. They will
approve him for RNY, but not AGB.
AGB is the adjustable Gastric Band. It is a
relatively new procedure and is less invasive than the
other surgeries. Hubby was sold on it because his time
out of work would be minimal. He really doesn’t want
to be out of work very long, because he doesn’t get
paid sick time or PTO. He is willing to have a RNY at
this point because the insurance will approve it. It
will just mean more time away from work.
