Hmmm, I’m not unsubscribed. I’m still here. I was just notifying the
group that I had unsubscribed the person who requested it, and reminding
that person that it can take 48 hours to stop getting messages.
Moderators can unsubscribe, but it’s sometimes hard to find a person on
the member list if their profile doesn’t have an email address or it’s
an unusual name - which is why so often it’s recommended that people
unsubscribe themselves.

Hi, Collette - yes, barring complications, you should be able to return
to work in a week or so. I did. Where in NC do you live? I lived in
Charlotte for a couple of years. Gorgeous country there. <G>

Courtney,
I am so sorry you having an unpleasant time right now. I just want to asure
you that things will get better I promise. I went through the same thing as
you and as I also think many of us have. Please just take each day as it
comes, don’t think about tomorrow until than.

Well, of course, Courtney, did you imagine with a one ounce (2
tablespoon) stomach you’d be able to eat more? <gentle tease> It’s a
good thing!!! You paid big money to be not able to eat as much as you
did in the past. That being said, a lot of people have feelings of
remorse once they’ve had the surgery because a lot of our eating
problems are head-related, not really food related. But most people do
get over that - or they get counseling, which can be very helpful.
However the good news is that I am now almost 3 months out and I can get
down 4 oz, or half a cup at a setting. If you’re getting nauseous,
you’re either eating too much, or not chewing your food enough, usually.
I still have to chew my food to mush, and if I don’t, I really regret
it. Feels like I’ve been kicked in the chest. I have a feeling I have a
little stomal stenosis (narrowing of teh stoma), but it’s not causing
nausea and vomiting daily, so I’m not taking it in for a scope. Before
surgery I would inhale food, and my dad always used to complain that I
wasn’t chewing enough. Now I definitely chew enough. <G>
The hardest thing for some of us is to determine what "full" feels like
now. I can almost figure it out - it’s a different feeling than when I
had a regular tummy, by a long shot. A high protein diet will cause
your hunger to abate - adding the simple carbs back can cause you to
feel hungry, for sure. The one thing we don’t want to do is graze,
because we CAN undo the surgery - what we have is a tool, not a magic
bullet.
Are you doing protein drinks and vitamins, in addition to your protein
foods? Are you getting your 64 oz of water in a day? Maybe that will
help. I don’t know what kind of surgery you’ve had, but you may well
need to supplement - and if it’s a distal RNY, you’ll definitely need to
supplement.
Good luck!

Many people join lists like ours during the period that they’re
researching whether or not to have the surgery. And some of them stay
and some of them go. I wish Terry all the best. Maybe she’ll be one of
the 2% who can take their weight of and keep it off through either
dieting or healthy eating. It took me 50+ years to finally get that I
was firmly in the 98% left <G>. I could only sustain a diet or the diet
mindset for about 4 months. After that it was back to my regular
business. This surgery is a life-saver for me, and I am so glad I’ve
had it. I’m losing slower than a lot of my listmates - but as long as
it’s a steady slowness, I’m happy with that. I know what I can do to
hurry it up, and when the weather is more cooperative (and we move out
of the yellow pollen dust coats on the cars) I’ll start.

I was thinking the same thing as I read her message.
I had surgury on June 19th 2002 and have not regretted it at all. If anything I
am not in as much pain as I was and even my children notice the difference in my
attituted and my mobility.
I was heavy almost all my life with the exception of birth as I was a 3 month
premee and weighed in and 3 lbs 3 0z and went down to 1 lbs 6 oz and I also
lost 140 lbs back in 1979 when I was in my late teens, I was not ready for the
change of attitute from people so I eventually gained all of the 140 lbs back
plus 100lbs.
I am very thankful that I had the opportunity for this operation. Yes there are
rough times in the beginning but if you learn from the signals your body is
giving you they will ease up.
Regards
Lady

Hello Group,
This is my first reply since my Surgery Open RNY 2-4-03, I spent 7 days in the
hospital and have had maybe 5 good days since. I consider good days to be days I
actually feel like walking and eating I do it even if I don’t feel like it
though (yes-unbelievably small amounts of food but I am not complaining & the
amount of walking varies on my pain level and energy but I am doing well I
think). I have lost 26 lbs so far.
I have no regrets but must admit it is much more challenging than I expected it
to be. I am sure it gets better though otherwise no one would recommend the
surgery. One day at a time is right!!! I am excited about tomorrow and doing my
best to get past today.
I have a couple questions though: My Dr.s ask that I consume 2 nutritional
supplements a day (high in protein, low in carbs- supplied by the dr.s office).
I am not able to tolerate these supplements though, they cause nausea and
sometimes I vomit. the dr. has said if I must I can eat lowfat no sugar yogurt
and creamed soups. The problem is I have not been able to consume even 20 grams
of protein a day these foods cause nausea too… WHEN is it I should worry about
lack of protein and the effects of poor nutrition after surgery??? I am 17 days
post op.
I also am curious if anyone had problems with their incision opening??? Mine has
not, my dr.s did a plastic surgery closure. I think it’s a good idea to ask the
dr.s to consider this type of closure vs. staples prior to surgery, seems to
hold the abdomen better and less risk of reopening.Wanted to share this FYI>>>
Thanks and have a great day. Talk to everyone soon…LISA
