Psychiatrists…….friends or foes?

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

I have taken almost most of the necessary exams for the surgery at
the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hosp. in Miami, Fl., and
just over amonth ago I went to see the psychiatrist for her
approval. She told me that she would not give me the "Approval,"
until I got off the IMO’s anti-depressants that I was taking and a
letter from my other psychiatrist. So 1 month later after getting
off Parnate and Lithium and getting my other psychiatrist to write
her a letter, I called her and asked her if she needed anything else
from me. She relayed to her secretary to tell me that she decided
now to monitor me in my new anti-deressant medicenes for the next 6
months.

When she said that I felt lied to and gloom come over me. You see,
they told me at the hospital where I took most of the exams that the
exams were good only for no more than six months. So if I’m to wait

A Better Way to Better Balance

Monday, November 28th, 2005

All illnesses or weight problems, even acne, allergies and headaches
start with an imbalance in the body. The imbalance can be linked to
hormones, vitamins or minerals, salt, water, chemicals or many other
substances found in too great or too little quantity. Sometimes our
bodies are attacked with an aggressive disease creating an imbalance
in our immune system. When we find and regulate the imbalance we cure
even the "non-curable" diseases and the most stubborn illness.

A new group has started called Better Balance. It is a simple program
that teaches you how to heal in easy baby steps. This CAN be done
without dumping dollars into the allopathic world of medicine. Much
of what we teach is common sense that gets overlooked in our fast-
paced, too busy for health, lifestyles. You can be healthy and it can
be simple. If you are just joining please read the past posts,
especially the ones entitled "Starting Over". We are just getting

Prayers and Good Thoughts

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Hello everyone–

I haven’t posted here for a while, but I do have a prayer
request. I am unable to have wls (at least for now) because I have a written
exclusion in my insurance policy. I have found that they will approve a breast
reduction and a
panniculectomy if medically necessary, and so, I am having those
procedures done this Friday at about noon.

I just ask that as you go through your prayer lists for the next few days,
please add my name to the list, and pray for a quick and complication-free
recovery for me.

I would really appreciate all the good thoughts and prayers you can send my
way–

How to talk to my doctor

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

Thank you everyone , for your warm welcome. I plan on making a doctors appt.
soon to discuss surgery options. My doctor has been helping me with my panic
attacks that i seem to be having when i do go out in public. I feel alot of it
has to do with the way i feel about myself and the way i look. Iam feeling
stronger and i feel the need to get on with my life, but its my weight that
holds me back. Anyway what i wanted to know is , how do i go about talking to my
doctor about surgery? Iam afaird that she wont agree with me on this. I am also
on medi-cal and want to know if anyone has had surgery where medi-cal pays. I
want to be able to walk into the doctors and know what iam talking about. At age
38 and weighing 335 i cant lose this weight on my own, and excercise is very
hard when you avoid the outside world. I dream of working again, making
friends, having a life. Please any info i would love to hear from you. And let
me tell you how wonderful it feels to belong to this group. thank you

Antibiotics

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Hi all.
Are there any safe antibiotics that don’t cause diarhea? I am
allergic to penicillin and cipro. I was put first on avalox and now
zithromax and am having trouble. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Looks like you have some waiting time. You should find out if your surgeon
requires you to lose weight before surgery. Some of them make you lose 10%.
If he does you should go have your weight documented with your regular Dr
or the surgeons office and get started. That way when your consultation
comes you have already jumped that hurdle. Some Drs want you to get started
on an exercise program too to get your body ready for surgery. Good luck!

Yolanda,

You are doing the the "oposite" of what you should be doing…you are
undermining your surgery.

Get off the carbs…up your protein intake. Don’t count calories, get out of
the habit of watching the scales, they only will create undo stress on you
emotionally.

With the water that you are taking in (which I think is rather a lot for the
size of your new pouch), and your exercise, your body’s metabolism has gone into
"survival" mode and has become more efficient at converting any and all possible
carbs in your diet into fat storage for survival, as it believes that your body
is being deprived of essential nutritents….plateau(s) are common, however, as
long as you stay on your current cycle, you will not see any significant

The phone call it took two years to make

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

It’s been just over two years since I started the process to surgery.
I’ve faced Dr’s deciding they don’t want to do it anymore, Dr’s
saying they wanted to then backing out, Insurance denials for lack of
coverage, insurance denials for lack of medical necessity (Obviously
they weren’t paying attention), Dr’s saying no because of other
health conditions, and my wife just flat our refusing to support.

Today I just go the phone call I have been waiting for. My insurance
company called to let me know that I have been approved!!!!

Actually they called to let me know that there is now a Dr in my area
doing the surgery so I wouldn’t have to go out of network to get it
done, but that if I still wanted to go out of Network it was
approved. They haven’t informed the Dr yet but will be soon.
