Postop thoughts was: Re: [Obesity Surgery Support Group] surgery app
Hi, Lisa! You’re right at just over 2 weeks out now, so where you’re at doesn’t
surprise me at all. I barely ate anything when I was that far out. I was not
able to do my full water (still can’t and I’m 3 months out, although I am
getting better. Problems with getting air in the pouch.). I am able to get my
protein drinks down. I find that the ones I like the very best are Proscore100
Choc and Champion Pure Whey Stack choc, one scoop of each mixed in 6 oz of water
with a cube or so of ice. Tastes just like OTC chocolate milk to me, and
although thicker than water, it’s not so thick that it gags me going down. My
doc gave us samples of soemthing that tasted AWFUL - there was no way I’d gag
that stuff down. It was about 2 weeks out before I could get the whole protein
drink down in about 30 minutes. Before that I’d have to make halfsies.
You can get samples of these drinks (if you’re interested) at
www.vitalady.com - so that you don’t have to buy the whole container until you
figure out if you like it. I understand that www.netrition.com has them (the
full cans) for sale with probably the lowest postage costs. I get mine at
vitalady, but I’ve developed a relationship with her, and it’s worth the extra
money to me, plus she’s got a lot of vits/mins and other things that we posties
can use - she’s a postie herself
I’ve had no problem with my incisions - had it lap, but that still means 5
holes <G>. My doc used stitches that were under the skin. I am keloided up a
big,and they’re quite red, but I know from my gallbladder incisions that that,
too, shall pass.
It does get better, I do promise!

Hello Group,
This is my first reply since my Surgery Open RNY 2-4-03, I spent 7 days in the
hospital and have had maybe 5 good days since. I consider good days to be days I
actually feel like walking and eating I do it even if I don’t feel like it
though (yes-unbelievably small amounts of food but I am not complaining & the
amount of walking varies on my pain level and energy but I am doing well I
think). I have lost 26 lbs so far.
I have no regrets but must admit it is much more challenging than I expected
it to be. I am sure it gets better though otherwise no one would recommend the
surgery. One day at a time is right!!! I am excited about tomorrow and doing my
best to get past today.
I have a couple questions though: My Dr.s ask that I consume 2 nutritional
supplements a day (high in protein, low in carbs- supplied by the dr.s office).
I am not able to tolerate these supplements though, they cause nausea and
sometimes I vomit. the dr. has said if I must I can eat lowfat no sugar yogurt
and creamed soups. The problem is I have not been able to consume even 20 grams
of protein a day these foods cause nausea too… WHEN is it I should worry about
lack of protein and the effects of poor nutrition after surgery??? I am 17 days
post op.
I also am curious if anyone had problems with their incision opening??? Mine
has not, my dr.s did a plastic surgery closure. I think it’s a good idea to ask
the dr.s to consider this type of closure vs. staples prior to surgery, seems to
hold the abdomen better and less risk of reopening.Wanted to share this FYI>>>
Thanks and have a great day. Talk to everyone soon…LISA
also so this is my first time posting….

Hey Guys,
Has anyone out there tried the Michael Thurmonds 6 week body makeover? Since I
seem to be batting a 1000 on getting Medicaid to pay for my surgery I am
considering this program. Is it another waist of money?
