Comments on: Psychiatrists…….friends or foes?

Thank you Colette for your feedback. They told me that Dr. Patricia
Bayer’s group will only accept the opinion and evaluation of this
particular psychiatrist. I made an appointment to talk with her on
the 31st to see what is happening and if she will change her mind.

If she insists on being stubborn then I will have to drop her like a
hot potatoe and head on somewhere else with the records. Maybe she’s
doing this to collect money from me. She carges an outrageous fee of
$250 for one hour of her "valuable" time!

Turn to the psychiatrist who is doing your meds. Sit down and explain the
situation to that psychiatrist and ask him/her to contact your original
psychiatrist, to see if something can be worked out. Explain that you’re on
a limited budget, and that it’s not that you object to a 6 month wait, but
that with a 6 month wait, you’d have to retest, and you don’t think medicare
would do it.

Or, just ask the second psychiatrist if she’d give you a letter.

I have taken almost most of the necessary exams for the surgery at
the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hosp. in Miami, Fl., and
just over amonth ago I went to see the psychiatrist for her
approval. She told me that she would not give me the "Approval,"
until I got off the IMO’s anti-depressants that I was taking and a
letter from my other psychiatrist. So 1 month later after getting

off Parnate and Lithium and getting my other psychiatrist to write
her a letter, I called her and asked her if she needed anything else
from me. She relayed to her secretary to tell me that she decided
now to monitor me in my new anti-deressant medicenes for the next 6
months.

When she said that I felt lied to and gloom come over me. You see,
they told me at the hospital where I took most of the exams that the
exams were good only for no more than six months. So if I’m to wait
around for this incompetant psychiatrist, that would mean that all
the exams that I have already taken would be invalid and I would have
to take them again.

By the time the approval for the operation would come it would have
been at least 8 months or more since I took those exams. I’m on
Medicare and I’m sure that they would not pay for me to take the
exams for the second time in the same year. This psychiatrist doesn’t
need to really monitor my new anti-depresant medicines because I have
another psychiatrist doing that already and for me to find a new and
more suitable anti-depresant could take more than 1 year as it took
last time.

I am 49 years old and weigh in at about 350lbs., and I feel I don’t
have the luxury of waiting around for this psychiatrist to make her
mind up. I don’t know what to do.

Any suggestions? I don’t know where to turn for help.

have the luxury of waiting around for this psychiatrist to make her
mind up. I don’t know what to do.

Any suggestions? I don’t know where to turn for help.
