Mia’s in my prayers

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Today, I was checking out other websites..and as morbid as it may seem i was
checking out all the memorial sites as well..I found it disturbing that Mia’s
compllication is not a new one. Neither is peritonitis or pulmonary embolism. So
I am praying HARD that this will pass in Mia’s case, and now I am scared to
think there may be the possiblity that this could happen to me as well..

DC area surgeon

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

Hello,

I have been on this list for about 6 months or so, and am hopefully heading
toward Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y surgery, though open would be okay with me.
However, after having gone through all the required pre-tests and hoops,
submitting all my referrals, history, etc., I was told that the surgeon no
longer accepts Aetna UShealthcare HMO (presumably because he is paid from
them less than the surgery costs). They are trying to "negotiate" a special
deal for just me with Aetna, but there are no guarantees. Is there anyone
on this list that might be able to recommend a surgeon in the DC area that
takes Aetna USHealthcare HMO. In my preliminary search for a surgeon before
I arrived at Dr. Barry Greene, it was difficult to find a surgeon who
accepted Aetna.

Thanks,

update!!!!!!!

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Hello Everyone, Today I had my surgical consult with my surgeon. Dr.Ihor Fedorak
in Colorado Springs, Co. We went over all my tests ( echocardio, sono of
liver, sleep study, etc) and he thinks everything is wonderful. I spoke with him
about proximal, medial and distal and he informed me that he places it approx
150cm down on the intestine and he called it "proximal" I believe him when he
tells me that he will do what is in my best interests, but i was asking from
what I’ve heard and learned on here. He thought obesityhelp.com was a great
place for information as well as this group.. He then scheduled my
surgery…APRIL 28th at 1pm WHOHOOOO…I think i shocked him…i hugged him..I
have to return to Penrose Main on the 25th for preop tests like chest xray etc.
** Note I am hosting my two kids birthday party on the 26th they will turn 5 and
3. And unfortunately for them..all i will be thinking of is….COME ON APRIL
28th…lol.. Thanks for listening..and letting me share my good
news….Christmas in April who’d a thunk it…lol~ Erin

A request of the group

Monday, December 26th, 2005

Some of our group members are on digest and I’ve had a request from one of
them to ask others to please remember to trim their posts when they reply.

This means, when you hit reply, that you go back and delete everything of
the old message that is not just what you’re responding to.

Occasionally someone on digest will respond to a post and they’ll leave
their entire digest in their response. I’m sure no one is doing it
intentionally. But then if the person reading the response is also on
digest, they’ve got to go through 2 digests (or more!) to get all their
messages, and at least one they’ve already read!

Thanks for your consideration.

Doctors Recommendation

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

My PCP will support my WLS but has asked me to put together the draft
copy of a letter to be submitted to the surgeon who will be
performing the operation. I am stuck trying to put in information
that the insurance company will use in making the assessment. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

WHY?

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Hey, out of curiousity, why does it take 2-3 days for my posts to sometimes
show? I didnt know if anyone knew or not.

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Hello All, Another update from ME~ Today started out great! I was taking the
kids and running errands and I planned on taking them to the Piglet Big Movie..(
I hate Winnie the Pooh….so this is truly a treat for my kids!) I got my
samples from Vitalady..(Thanks by the way!) But I was sad to see that they are
POWDER!!! and not premixed..which is what I thought I was ordering..I am scared
of not mixing it right and really screwing it up!( I must of missed the part I
was suppose to read that said it was a powder form…oh well..) Not the end of
the world right Then the phone rings!…Its the sleep study clinic on the other
line..they tell me I have to have a CPAP machine and they are going to order one
for me today..and the agreement my doctor has with the pulminologist)(sp?>) wont
work for me..they no longer take BCBS period..They weren’t getting paid enough!!
(stingy ba) Anyhooo..this all came as a big surprise to me..because when i left
the sleep lab the tech told me I WOULDNT NEED ONE!!! I hope this is not a scam!
I hated that dang machine ..but the sleep clinic secretary told me that " Ma’m
the doctor who read your test said you had SEVERE sleep apnea in the REM stage

Thin feels good??

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Abdullah,

I am not sure if your first name is Abdullah, or Bahia, or if that is your
last name, so forgive me if I don’t address you correctly. I hang on to the
hope that being thin will feel good. I have been heard that line before in
different groups and weight-loss mail groups. However, every time I hear
it, though I guess it must be true, I must admit that I have a little
question mark in my heart every time I hear it , or try to appropriate it
for myself. "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." It sounds so
assertively correct. However, I am not sure that it is true for me. Or,
perhaps I have never been that thin, to where I cherish and enjoy it. Funny
thing, as I look back at my life, I can remember when being 190 felt very
fat to me. I felt the same guilt that I feel now at 400+ lbs, back when I
was 190. So, now if I were 190 (which could happen only in the most
extreme effort and lots of time), I would be categorized as "thin", at least
