I have a Question……

Hi Everybody,

I have been a member of this group for a while but I have only posted
a couple times, although I love to read about everybody’s sucess
stories and How supportive everyone is. I am approved through my
insurance to have the surgery ( open RNY )I am just waiting for my
sleep test and then I can set a date. I feel very confident with my
Doc, but I would really like to know what the time spent right before
the surgery and immediately after is like? I am aware of the basics
like walking around after the surgery to prevent blood clots. I would
really like to know about if there are things I can to do before the
surgery to make it easier. If anybody has any info. I would greatly
appreciate it.

    hey Sandra,

I had mine done 3-7-03 and Before I did the surgery I made sure I found a
protein shake I could take. I also workout to make sure I was in the best
shape possible for surgery. I also got all meds and more pillows since it
will be hard to lay down. I also have small children so I made sure that I
had a nanny to take care of them. I also stocked up on sugar-free snacks.
These are just some things I did so I hope they help you out. Take care and
good luck. Also after you have that surgery I think you should look into a
water aerobics class and of course walk.LOL So far, As of today I have lost
    29 pounds. Not bad.

Thanks Katie!! That is some very helpful info. By the way what kind of protein
shake did you go for. I prefer fruity as opposed to vanilla. I have not found a
drink yet and also I heard from a friend that there are differerent kinds of
proteins ( whey or soy)out there. Does it make a difference which one I should
    take?

I was told that your body absorbs isolated protein better than any non-isolated
form. So with that in mind, isolated whey or soy works well. :) Depends on
    your personal preference, I think.

I use an isolated soy protein from GNC. I mix a scoop with 8 ounces of water
and voila 25 grams of protein (I use a shaker.) The good thing about GNC is if
you hate the product, take it back and they’ll give you a refund. lol
Personally, I think the vanilla’s a bit sweet to me, so I use the chocolate.
They also have a strawberry and a banana in the kind I use. (Protein 95, I think
it’s called). It’s not badly priced either. :)
Boy have I taken a lot of products back. :) I’ve tried designer whey french
vanilla, isopure zero carb strawberries ‘n cream (hideous), some wal-mart brand
(egads…nasty), and various premixed protein drinks.

I feel like I get better value with the shake mixes, instead of the premixed
ones. (They get kind of expensive.)

    Best of luck! :)
