New Member. :)

Hello,

I’m at the very beginning of the journey for obesity surgery. How
much truth is there to the requirement of losing the first 25 lbs
before doctor will even consider doing surgery?

Anyone here from Minnesota? Everyone of my doctors is telling me I
MUST have this done. I’m currently at 425lbs am 31, have just been
diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel, OsteoArthritis, and am
on my way to Rhumetoid Arthritis, and Acid Reflux Disease.

Any support I could get would be wonderful. I have an awesome
Husband who is backing me 1,000% and my family seems to be in
agreement.

So, that’s pretty much my short-story.

Welcome Deb. Congratulations on getting started on your weight loss
journey. It’s a difficult decision but once you make it and go through
with it you won’t regret it.

My name is Tanya and I am 3 weeks and 1 day post op. I had my surgery on
6/20 and at the time weighed 432 lbs. I did not loose any before surgery
and my doctor did not tell me that I needed to. The one thing you will
find is that every doctor is different and has different rules for
weight loss surgery. Some docs will tell you to loose weight, some
won’t. It will be easier if you do, but it’s not necessary unless your
doc refuses to do it if you don’t loose those 25lbs of course! Diets are
different, rules about protein drinks; medications and everything else
are different. You cannot judge what one person does by another, however
there are general guidelines. The best advice is to follow your doctor’s
instructions because ultimately he is the one you have to listen to.

I’ve attached a file of questions for your surgeon that I got off
another website. They should be helpful.

If you have any other questions, just ask :-)
