Need a protein supplement.

Hi Everyone,
I am 4 weeks post-op, open RNY, I have lost a total of 42 pounds
already and I am doing great, I feel so much better since having
surgery, the clothes are sagging, people are noticing that I’ve lost
weight.I need suggestions or recommendations for protein supplements
that will not make me gag, I have spent so much money on shakes,
juice type drinks etc, that make me gag or heave just from smelling
them. If I can get my 83 grams of protein a day, I’ll be Ok.

congrats! :) I use an isolated soy protein from GNC…it’s called Protein
    95. I like the chocolate better than the vanilla (it’s a bit too sweet). I
haven’t tried the strawberry, but every other strawberry I’ve hated. And
they have a banana shake too…I mix mine with water for 25 grams of
    protein.

As for bars, I’ll eat a detour bar every once in awhile. It tastes pretty
decent, but has a boatload of calories.

OK, tangie, what have you tried? How have you mixed them?

My favorites are a combination of Champion Proscore 100 and champion pure
whey stack chocolate, (w/1/4 tsp of cinnamon), 6oz of water, and about 4
    cubes of ice.

Right now I have (and like)
    Champion Mochaccino
    Champion Banana Scream
    Nectar Carribean Cooler (sorta coconut)
    Proplete Gold Orange Dreamsicle
    Protein delite Lemon Cheesecake
    5+1 Banana Cream Pie

I’ve also tasted and like the Nectar Apple Ecstacy..(tastes like a Jolly

    Rancher green apple)

All of them mix up for me with 6 oz of water and a couple of cubes of ice.
Almost all of them can be just shaken in a covered cup or glass. Except the
Lemon Cheesecake, and it needs more water - it seems a bit sweet. Actually,
I like to make the Lemon Cheesecake with 6 oz of water and pour it over
couple of cups of ice cubes that have been run through my hawaiian shaved
    ice machine.

    Coupla things:
If you want a lot of different flavors, you could do a vanilla and add
flavorings - like davinci sugarfree syrups.

Another thing - you may be mixing your protein drink with too little or too
much water - it makes a difference. My fave drink (which I have one of right
now beside me) tastes like dirty socks if I get too much water.

Finally, if it’s the smell, you can always drink it through a sports cup
with a straw (I know, some docs don’t like some patients to do straws -
others don’t have a problem with it. I figure if it’s not universal, I’ll
do it <G>. - the issue here is getting air in your pouch and burping/or not
    burping…)

The site above has over 80 protein flavors - I’m thinking you can find one
you like. If nothing else, you could do the ProCel, which is virtually
tasteless and can be added to foods, like soup or mashed potatoes (if you’re
    doing those..)

I have two cartons of these in the fridge. Love em. Plus the U-turn bars.
But the company has come out twice since, upping the carb content on the
ingredients. <sigh> I do partial bars now. Actually, I just made two 8×8
pans of protein bars from the "500 low carb recipes" by Dana Carpenter.
    Picked it up at BooksAMillion…

    sugar free cherry koolaid

it takes care of your water and your protein

well i think it has 22 protein-so you would fit it in with you food,i get
tired of water so i like a change sometimes, its good but it is a little sweet-if
you buy it gat the liquid form(tropical fruit flavor)i didnt care for the
    tablet kind

  9. Jamey Lancaster Says:

Well, you have both protein and water in it, but I’m not sure it "takes care"
of your daily requirement of protein. Also, the Amino2222 is not a complete
protein (doesn’t have all the amino acids). The Amino5000 is. I do 3 oz of
the Amino 5000 each morning for my first protein drink, in about 12 oz of
water - but it’s just the first of several. 3 oz of Amino 5000 is 30gms of
    protein.

    Hi all-
this seems to be a popular subject. I am 2 weeks out and having SO much trouble
getting the protien drinks down. I just can’t handle the taste of any that I
have tried. I am still on full liquids so I don’t have much choice but to sip
and gag. Any suggestions?? I haven’t tried vitalady yet, thats probably my
next option. Thanks for any help you can give.

At GNC there is a protein drink ready mix in a bottle that i like. the bottle
is pretty big and has 40 grams of protein in each one. they have no carbs and
come in different flavors. Ask at the counter for the brand name. i’m out of
them right now and need to replenish but was waiting for the first of the month
    so i get my discount.

Would that be Protein Blast??? They are really good… but it is a full 8 oz I

I think Debbie was talking about the Isopure Zero Carb drink, they come in a
bunch of fruit flavors, each bottle is 20 ounces and has 40 grams of protein.
I was using that for a good while, then all of a sudden, I couldn’t tolerate
    them.
I want to thank everyone for trying to help me.

Yes, that is what I was trying to think of. I really like those.

I also found a protein bar I like it is called Pria by power bar. It has 170
calories and 5 grams of protein.

Check out there web site <A HREF="www.powerbar.com">www.powerbar.com</A>
can be found at krogers and kmart. I found them at Family Dollar.

I have tried Ultra Protien Powder added to whatever I am drinking. I have tried
Atkins shakes, some kind of berry flavored drink from GNC, Protien Power drinks
    from GNC.

I just HATE all of them and am very worried. Will I always have to suppliment
my protien? or will I be able to get it in better when I can eat food?

Hi, I was wondering how long ago you had surgery? Do you have to
drink or eat extra protein forever or just until you can start
consuming enough protein through the foods you eat?
I’m 9 weeks out from surgery and can’t stand the protein drink I’ve
    been taking.
I’ve also hit 5 days where I haven’t lost any weight and am so afraid
that "I’ve failed Again" at the last hope attempt of my life.
I only had 104 (only??) pounds to lose total, but at nine weeks I’ve
hit this 5 day holding pattern and am freaked out. Does anyone have
    any suggestions for me?
Two weeks ago I joined curves and am loving it. But that also added
to the shock of not losing any weight for 5 days thinking after
working out I should have lost something.
Thanks for any info you have for me. I’m new to this sight and think
    I’m loving it already.

First of all relax! You’re still relatively early out. Your body is trying
to grow accustomed to the changes you’ve made. Don’t let the scales rule
your life, otherwise you’re going to be miserable.

As for protein, I still take protein supplements. I ordered from vitalady
after becoming bored with the one I got at GNC. The Nectar Apple Ecstasy
is yummy. I can’t remember the name of the other one…100% Whey or
something like that (I think), well anyways it’s a Vanilla with Pineapple
bits flavor and it’s good too.

The pounds will come off faster if you’re not married to the scales.

My one suggestion is to NOT weigh yourself every day. Trust me, it will come
off, I’ve had weeks like that too where I didn’t lose anything and then all of
the sudden I’ll weigh myself and have dropped 5-10 pounds in a week. It goes in
    spurts.

This is such good news to hear. I have gone from feelings of failure to

I think you are correct in not weighing daily. It’s hard to do though when
in the back of my mind constantly is that pledging thought….have I lost
    anything yet?
Man there are so many new lesions to learn. They just don’t come over night
    do they.
Thank you very much for you thoughts.
    Jodee -
Very cool on the weight lost yourself. I only hope I can do as good.
