<description>If you have the lap-band, please let me know how it goes. I hve been
approved for the lap-band and after reading the emails, I am like &#34;is
this the one I want?&#34; but this is what has been approved and something
is better than nothing. I am like the energizer bunny - I keep
growing and growing and really want to stop.</description>

<description>I'm considering the Lap Band; however, I have the sense that he will
want to do the RNY due to my stature, where I carry the weight, etc.

I realize that after, I need to do all that. Heck, I've been trying
to do that all my life. I've got the water thing down already; I'm
doing a lot better with eating right.

Thank you for responding.

<description>Traditionally, around the time you hit your second year, if you're not
careful, you'll have a little bounce back in weight - like 20 lbs, although
it's different for everyone, of course. Your body has adapted to the surgery,
it's produced more vili to extract nutrients from your foods, etc. That's why
they say that we have a 18 mo to 2 year &#34;window of opportunity&#34; - You can get
through it without gaining weight back, but you have to be vigilant. One
theory out there is that you have to keep your body very well nourished
through supplements - vites and protein - so that your body doesn't realize
it's &#34;missing&#34; anything, and doesn't try to compensate.

		<description>Pam,

You mentioned something about a &#34;bounce back&#34; after 2 years - what does that
mean?

I'm only 5 months post-op and alot of this is still new to me.

Thanks,

<description>Deb, what kind of surgery are you thinking about getting? Regardless, we all
have to consider the surgery as a tool. We have to be proactive, after the
surgery, to eat right, exercise and get our water. It's not a magic bullet.
There is a &#34;bounce back&#34; around 2 years, but if you're prepared, it's not a
problem. Or much of a problem &#60;G&#62;.

I've had no side effects at all from the surgery. I lose weight very slowly.
My BP has dropped into normal, my blood sugars are all normal, I'm expecting
my apnea to remit (haven't been retested).
Pam in Niceville

Hello everyone!

I finally got to go to the seminar, attended and signed up for an
appointment with the Surgeon's nurse.
&lt;!--more--&gt;

Appointment set for October 20, 2003 at 2:00 or 2:30 pm.

I've talked to one person so-far and am becoming increasingly
apprehensive.

I'm at around 420 lbs and am 5'7-8&#34; tall. My BMI is well over 60%,
so I know that isn't an Issue. I have BCBS of MN and am aware of
what I need to go through. (testing is all, psych eval) That isn't a
concern.

What have some of you experienced as side effects? The one person I
talked to stated she wouldn't recommend it to anyone; however, she
is glad SHE did it. Which is perfectly understandable. She is month
8 post-op and has gone from a size 32+ to an 18. She has also had to
go back in a couple of times and have the tube unplugged, through an
esophegiel tube. She has the pouch and fills up after 2 chicken
nuggets and a couple of fries.

I'm also concerned about the gaining of 50% after the total loss;
the surgery itself. I'm worried that I'll have to have the RNY vs
the Lap Band.

Can anyone help me?
