Jan,
Thank you for the words of encouragement and CONGRATULATIONS on your
rapid success. I am still waiting for approval. My request from my PCP went
in on August 15th so we are still really just getting the ball rolling.
Continued good wishes and happy losing! :)

Hello-

I had the RNY surgery 5 weeks ago in Ypsilanti Michigan. I have lost 40
pounds already. I feel really good. I had no problems except for an annoying
little air bubble in by bowel that kept me in the hospital for 3 extra days.
It is NOT the easy way out like some say. In fact I thought the 1st few weeks
were hard but I hung in there and feel much better. The nurses and staff were
GREAT. Hope you have no troubles and everything goes well for you.

Ok does anyone know how to figure out what goal weight
is? I had my surgery on Dec.9,03 and have lost 137lbs.
I am now down to a size 38 in mens pants and a 18-20
in womans could be smaller if it was not for all the
extra skin. I see a plastic surgeon on monday and I
figure with this skin gone I could wear a smaller size
and be very happy. But I still am not sure what a goal
weight is. HELP!!!!

Oh, I meant to say that for lunch I'll have real food - which I take in a
packed lunch. It's easy for me to do meals out,, I just expect to have
leftovers. If I eat at a place like McDonalds, I just toss the buns. We
have a hamburger place here that makes the best hamburgers, but it also
makes really incredible salads. I will take a chicken club salad, with
roquefort dressing on the side home and toss the cheese rolls, and then
might eat off that salad and chicken for 2-3 days. I also have real food for
dinner and sometimes real food for breakfast.

I have a proximal surgery, so I don't dump (at this time) on sugars and fats
<boo hoo> - well, I haven't tried the coconut oil, I dumped on that
presurgery, so I'm sure I'd do it postsurgery. I should probably get it
back out and do a tsp on days when I'm "backed up." <G> Since we all
malabsorb oils to a certain extent, I don't worry too much about fats.

Hi!
I had my RNY on 11/20/02 - so although not a year out, I'm 9 months out.
I've lost about 72 lbs, and have found that it seems to come off in steps
for me. I'm still not overly hungry. I might have a moment or two when my
"stomach" feels "hungry" but it goes away quickly. And sometimes it's more
wanting water. I try to get in 64 oz of water - or something like water -
decaf anything, crystal lite, etc - in a day.

My life eating plan will probably be something like a modified Atkins plan,
with plenty of water. I take protein shakes to work and have one mid
morning, and one mid afternoon - take those little gladware 4oz covered
containers with my favorite powder (1 scoop of Proscore 100 choc and one
scoop of Pure Whey Stack choc w/1/8 tsp of cinnamon) amd mix with 6 oz of
water and a couple of ice cubes [although I can do wihtout the ice cubes, if
necessary] ) and shake in a tupperware gravy shaker. (got my tupperware
gravy shaker at Target).

I eat protein first, then green veges, then limit myself to a bite of
starchy food, if I'm still hungry. I doubt that I eat more than about 4 oz
of food (by weight) at a setting, but I can eat anything I *want* to eat -
just not as much of it. (I can eat more salad than meat, as an example.) I
still chew every bite I take to liquid.)

I take a lot of vitamins and supplements (they say our body starts to try to
compensate for the surgery, by developing extra vili to extract more from
the food - well, I don't want it to do that, I paid good money for this
malabsorption, so I supplement like crazy to try to fool my body into
thinking I'm not starving for nutrients).

Hi I am new but need input. I am 32 and have a BMI of 68+. My doc
suggests Roux en Y. I am willing to do about anything to feel better
and feel better about me. I am tired of not having a life because of
my size. Has anyone had this specific procedure? Please tell me your
experience. If you have been post op a year or so let me know how it
is going now. How much did your pouch mature? How much can you eat
now? How if any are you physically limited(not from before, but
compared to someone who was a normal weight all their life)?
Who of you had problems? How do you eat at work? I work in the
service center of a busy grocery store and run the front end on
occasion as well as register.

Also did you have your surgery at a Bariatric Treatment Center?

I am looking at the one in Indy and the one in Ypsilanti Mich.
