Did your shoe size change?

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

I’m just three months post-op but I was wondering from any of
the "older" people out there - did your shoe size change as you lost
weight? To be honest - the shopping bug is hitting me and, since I
can’t buy clothes, I’m looking at shoes. Thanks all!

Sorry for your loss and Congratulations for your loss

Lisa,

I think most of the people that opt for the surgery don’t have problems losing
weight on their own. The problem is not losing it, but keeping it off. Most
everyone on this list has come to the point that if they did not take drastic
steps to lose weight and keep it off, they were going to die much younger, and
live the rest of their lives in the misery of being an obese person. The
difficulties of being obese, the health risks of being obese are strong
motivators to doing whatever it takes to remedy it. You may be one of the
unusual and small percentage of people that can lose the weight and keep it off.
However, I came to the point where I simply did not believe that I could lose
the weight AND keep it off. I think most of the people on this list would
agree. It is a very small percentage of people that have complications, much
less die as a result of this operation. I can honestly say that the surgery was
much, much easier than I had dreamed it would be. I thank God and the prayers

Anybody in San Diego, CA???

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

Hi, I was wondering if there was anyone here who lives in the San
Diego area. I need some more support, friends, and possibly, an
exercise buddy.

I’m 23, in San Diego. I’ve been doing great! I’m now down to 219
lbs. I just need to find other ways to deal with my depression and
boredom. I’ve had quite a few slips and cheated in the past. I
regret that so much too, because all it does, is make me sick, and
even more depressed.

I find it really difficult to find things to do, and change my
lifestyle. It’s hard for me to find work, or get into school. I
just have a lot of issues in life to deal with. I don’t know what to
do. I do see a psychologist, and is looking for a psychiatrist. I
just need a lot of help mentally, as well as physically.

My journey begins!

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

Hi everyone,

Well I just got back from a dr’s appointment. The
news was a 50/50 deal. I’m still waiting for the
results of my latest heart test*keeping fingers
crossed*. She did however inform me that I’ve become
a type 2 diabetic. Just what I need, something else
added to the growing list of health problems.

On a happier note, she did say that once the tests are
all back, she will begin the referral to a surgeon in
my area that does WLS *smiles*

I know in my heart that this is the only way for me to
loose the pounds I need to and these are *very*

Repeated postings

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

I am not sure if this post will be permitted, but I would like to
gently, kindly exhort everyone to try and refrain from including the
entire digest in their reply to the list when they post. I may be
wrong, but I think most people when they get the digest, and want to
post, simply hit the reply button and start typing and then they hit
"Send". When this is done, it is the whole digest, as well as the reply
tht is sent to the whole list. That is why there are so many
repetitions within most of the digests. This may not be the best, or
the only method that works, but here is one method of posting that
works.

Hit "reply", and then hit control-A (or select All from Edit menu) and
then backspace. That will erase everything in the message. At this
point, I usually change the Subject, reflecting the content of my
message. If it is necessary to include the portion of text from the

A Newcomer

Hi everyone,
I am contemplating having the weight loss surgery. I have an
appointment October 1st. My sister has had the surgery as well as
two of my cousins. I come from a large family, but lately I have
trouble getting around because of my weight. I weigh 340 lbs. and
am 35 years old. I have a 12 year old son and a 2 year old daughter
and I feel like they suffer most because of my weight. Don’t get me
wrong, I don’t want to do this just for them, but for myself. I
feel like i am 50. I try to put the surgery into logic but to be
honest, I am kinda scared. I am afraid that I will die and leave my
children here. But I am also afraid not to have it done, and then
my weight will eventually kill me. I used to say that my weight did
not bother me but I have been lieing to myself all of these
years…it does bother me. Im tired of spending nights crying
because my legs and ankles hurt so bad. I’m tired of living off

Jason & Jodee

Saturday, May 13th, 2006

Hi,

Jason, I’m far from suicidal. I have far to much to
live for, that’s why I’m checking into WLS. So I can
be around to see my 5 month old grandson grow up
*smiles*

Jodee, best of luck with your check up. I look
forward to the day I get off all the meds I take, 2
for high blood pressure, 3 for depression, 1 for a
blood thinner, 1 for a diaretic(due to the heart) and
1 so all the others don’t bother my stomach. It’s a
never ending cycle.

I want to thank both of you for your response. It

depression

Friday, May 12th, 2006

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if others suffer from depression
because of their weight and health problems? I suffer
from depression, my health problems,(heart, arthritis
in my joints and the breakup of a long term marriage).
I’m currently taking 3 medications for this. I guess
my main question is, will this have any impact on
whether or not I would be ok’d for WLS?

I would greatly appreciate any input.
