Now what?

Hello all just have a few questions if you don’t mind. I don’t talk
much in this group just read everyones posts for moral support along
my journey for wls. I am sure this question has been asked before but
here I go.lol I just had my consult with the surgeon. He said
everything looked good and he would draft a letter to Health Alliance
and send it in. So my question is now what? What am I waiting for
concerning time frame or just in general. Am I waiting for them to
say go ahead with the sleep test and physc evaluation or is this
letter actual asking for approval for the wls? Any help would be
appreciated. I know I should have asked but was so excited and
talking to my husband that I forgot to ask and I don’t want to bug
them 2 hrs after leaving their office to ask these questions I should
have been smart enough to ask to begin with.

Generally, at least with the Bariatric center that I work at most of the test
that the doctor told you to have are clearances for surgery and have nothing
to do with your approval for WLS. As an example, BTC wrote to my ins before I
completed my test. After I did my test my doctor signed off on them clearing
me for surgery. I know some insurance companies require specific test to be
done and those insurance companies will require that they test be done and be
submitted with your pre approval. I hope this was clear and I hope I was able
to help. If not, let me know.

I have health alliance and the dr said he was going to submit the paperwork. I
didn’t know if that meant send it in to get approval for the surgery or
    not.Thanks for you info.

Seems to me that he’s drafting the letter for the surgery - does it seem that
way to you? Does your insurance require a sleep test and psyc eval, or does
your surgeon? YOu might want to wait until you hear something to know if you
even need the other tests… or a denial might say "we want to know the
results of blah-de-blah," and then you’d know. I’d wait a couple of weeks
and call the insurance to see if the package from the surgeon has gotten
there. Good luck! It’s usually a 3-4 month wait, unfortunately - say 2 weeks
to a month at the insurance, and then 3 months after the surgeon schedules
you. BUT, that’s not set in stone. You could get approval and popped into his
schedule in 2 weeks, for all I know.

Good luck. I will be looking for your "snoopy dance" email, when you get
    your approval. <G>
