<description>I've known a number of people who have had leaks. Usually you're tested for
leaks at the end of the surgery, or prior to leaving the hospital. But, you
can develop a leak later. As long as the doctor is on top of it, you will be
alright. Leaks are fairly rare, but they do happen occasionally.

I didn't have one. I'm a lap RNY, transected. Had a very UNremarkable
surgery and healing period.

		<description>Jenn,
I was talking about the internal kind. I need to know all the gory details
before I let them cut me open. I heard from a ICU nurse that this condition can
be infectious and deadly. She kind of scared me. She said she only had
experience with that part of the surgery and didn't know the good side. I was
wondering if this had happened to anyone who might have survived this. Or
someone who went back to have the leaks repaired.
Thanks for your reply,
Melva

If you're referring to internal leaks, I don't have experience with that (knock
on wood).

<description>What kind of leak are we talking about? Internal or external from the wound? I
had a seroma (sp?) after surgery where fluid started pouring out from my
incision (imagine my terror when it happened and I didn't know what it was)
Turns out it's no big deal, just excess fluid looking for a way out of my body
and finding the nearest exit. I went to the Doc the next day and he drained it
and it was over - completely painless.
