transection…
Hi everyone,
I’m just full of questions today. I’m a newbie waiting to have surgery. So of
course I have a lot of fears to deal with. I was wondering if someone could
explain transection for me and let me know if they have had that done and why it
is done.
Thank you,

I was transected, and am glad I was. You have fewer problems with SLDs down
the road. The stomach is a bit better than trying to staple jello together,
but you get the drift. If your stomach is transected, i.e., cut between rows
of staples so that it’s free from the pouch, the edges are better at healing
than if you just have staples across the top of the stomach. Most lap RNY
staplers do it automatically, these days.

Pam,
Thanks for all the information. Now I know what to ask my doctor and why.
