new to this

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

Hi all!
I just stumbled on this site tonight. I have surgery on Tues, Nov.
4th and I’m a little nervous. Anyone out there have anything
encouraging to say to help me? Any tips for right after the surgery
would be helpful as well.

Thanks!

Ins requests have been fulfilled.. I think!

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

I went in on Wed. morn and had my Full history and Physical done and
it was a new PCP for me and she would not write the letter of
psychological stability because I had only seen her once (my ins does
not require me to go to a psychiatrist) so I called my previous Dr
and he would not do it he said he was not qualified to do it but he
did send my weight loss attempts with him to them. I then called my
Plastic Sergion (he has done a breast reduction, hernia repair and
Adominal wall repair on me) and asked if he could do it his head
nurse said she didn’t see a reason why he wouldn’t and took all the
info down and said she would take care of it. I would think he would
be the most qualified of my medical Dr’s (and so does she) because of
the procedures he has done for me.
Wed afternoon my PCP called me and gave me my test results TSH levels
were normal, cholesterol was 228 (high I figured so) and my sugar she
said was high 118, she also said the WLS would help these numbers.

Spam and Files - an administrative note

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

We’re getting an awful lot of spam, particularly in the files section,
and it’s all porn. I’ve deleted all the files back down to those that
apply only to us. I’ve changed the settings so that only I or Jason
can actually post into the files section, although you can all
download and read the files. If you have something you want to post
in files, please let me know and I’ll be happy to post it for you.

We’re also getting other spam to the list that I catch in the
moderation cycle. Those files are being deleted and the spammers are
all being removed immediately. It’s picked up from once or twice a
month to daily, now, and I’m just putting this note to the list so
that if someone decides to join and hit us, and reads the last few
posts, they’ll realize that this is not a good list to play those
games with.

Thought for the Day!

Howdy Ya’ll,
A popualr hiking mountain by the village of Camden, Maine, has a trail
called "Tablelands Trail" — name for its many "tables" or plateaus. Every
Summer shepherds everywhere take their sheep up to graze in cool tablelands like
these.
Before a shepherd leads sheep up to these summer grasslands, the tableland
has to be prepared. Shepherds scout out areas free from dangerous ridges where
sheep might wander into trouble. Areas with poisonous weeds have to be avoided,
for sheep are known to eat things that are not good for them.
Psalm 23 was written by one with the heart of a shepherd, someone familiar
with the practice of making the pasture ready for grazing. "Thou prparest a
table before me" might well refer to this age-old shepherd’s act of preparing
the way for the sheep.
In the same way, those who have already had GBP and who are willing to
reach out to others and help us in a way we could have never imagined. I want to

Beary Big Hugs From San Antonio,Texas

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Hi Tiffany, I want to encourage you seek counseling as all the others have
advised. It will make a huge difference in your life. I know deep down in your
heart you are hurting like no one can know. But sweetie, there are those of us
that know. I don’t have the same exact issues you do but I was sexually abused
as a child and am having to deal with that issue. Even though I want to become a
healthier person physically, my brain keeps saying I don’t want the attention
from men that I will get once I start loosing weight. I am having GBP on
November 12th. I am really excited about it and two days before I go in the
hospital I have a counseling appointment schelduled, because I know that is
what’s going to help me get through all the feelings I am feeling. You are a
very special person and you deserve happiness. The biggest piece of advice I can
give you is to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF & YOU ARE WORTHY. In my first session with
couseling, I learned that I am worthy which I had never felt I was. I am new at
this online communication and feel free to contact me if you would like to talk.
Love in Christ,

Fires in san diego- For anyone wanting information

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

HI Everyone,

I am a current member, going down to San Diego next week for surgery. I am
flying down on Thursday and surgery is Friday morning. I work with the State of
California Office of Emergency Services and my branch (Fire & Rescue) is heavily
involved with the fires situation down south. I want to let everyone know that
per the information I have, it will be a few weeks before some of the major
fires, especially the ones in San Diego are under complete control. I have made
other arrangements in case I can not fly into San Diego on Thursday. All the
airports are open as of right now, but if anything else happens or any other
fires break out, that could change. I wanted to make everyone aware because
this is an important time for us and like myself I am sure you wouldn’t want to
miss it due to a disaster. If anyone has any questions about anything, please
feel free to ask. I would be glad to help. By the way, I have heard a few
other people have surgery next week, would you mind

What Should I Do???

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Hi Everyone! My name is Tiffany and I’m 23 years old. Some of you,
have probably read some of my previous posts in here. I’ve been
obese throughout most of my life. I’ve had a terrible eating
disorder (I still do, till this very day).

The highest weight I’ve been was 550 lbs. I’ve been a compulsive
overeater, and would always have an urge to eat. It seems I was
always hungry.

I also have depression, and I don’t have much of a social life. I’m
home mostly every day. My eating disorder has caused a lot of stress
in the family. I’ve lost my parents’ trust, to where I can’t really
do anything without being supervised 24/7. So, I can’t work or go to
school. They even admitted to me they can’t even enjoy their love
life because of all the stress I’ve caused.

Encouragement

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Hi Diana,
I just read your message and the answer that Pam gave you is the best
advice. I have only been with my doctor for 9 years and he always told me that I
could do it and when I did approach him about having the GBP he told me he
didn’t know enough about it to recommend it but he gave me a referral anyways
and I am very thankful that he admitted that he didn’t have the knowledge about
MO. Seek a PCP who is going to help you become a healthier you and I truely
believe that GBP is not a way escape the dieting ups & downs, it is a tool to
help us with our eating habits. Those like me whose body doesn’t have the
ability to loose weight need all the tools we can get to become the healthy
person God wants us to be.
Sending you Beary Big Hugs Hugs from Texas
Always Cindy

Run-don’t walk to a new PCP

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Diana,

I am glad I waited to write my response until after I read Pam’s
response. It can’t be said any better. I am sure this doctor has good
intentions, and thinks he is doing you a good service by telling you
that you could do it if you want. This list is filled with people who
can testify that this kind of assumption is just flat out WRONG! Doctors
can be wrong. We don’t like to think that, but they are fallible, and
like Pam said, subject to the same biases as we all are. Do the
research, find a surgeon via obesityhelp.com, and then find a PCP that
has referred patients to this surgeon before, so you can get support
from both the surgery, weight-loss team, and your PCP. Every day you
delay it is a day wasted. I think you will find everyone on this list
unanimous with one voice. It is just too bad that you have to fight
your way through all this uninformed and prejudicial thinking.
