So how many grams of sugar is okay in protein drinks?

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

I can’t find any protein drinks without sugar. Can you suggest some to me.
I also have been prescribed pain medicine in a syrup form. Isn’t that with
sugar?
I also thought soy milk would be a good source of protein. Is there any without
sugar?
How about those chewable vitamins…they have sugar.
Will just a little sugar be okay? What have people experienced with these
items?
I want to be prepared for after my surgery. My surgery date is November 24th.
I need to do some shopping. Maybe someone can suggest a good shopping list for
me.
Thanks,
Melva

Opinions on a weighty issue

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

To all,

I am almost three months out from my surgery, and in general, doing very
well. I am drinking my water, doing my supplements. The only hurdle I
have yet to surmount is the beckoning and haunting need to walk, walk,
walk. I am writing this to all of you, because we have all to one
degree or another walked the same walk, and have or will face the same
hurdles. Most of us have not developed regular exercise regimens,
partially because of laziness, and partially because of physical
limitations that we have as a result of our weight. I have a herniated
disk and sciatica pain that flares up in my leg. I anticipate that once
the weight comes off, at some point the pain in my back and legs will
recede. However, in the meantime, I need to get myself to walk. I
have a very expensive and heavy-duty treadmill, so I can’t use the
weather as an excuse. So my first plea is for those that have faced and

Less than 36 hours to go!!

Friday, August 18th, 2006

WellI have less than 36 hours to go! After my daughters dance recital today
she went home with my mother in law(because surgery was originally scheduled
for 11/17 before changed to 11/18 and she lives over an hour a way so I didnt
want her to have to drive back tomorrow ) When I was telling my daughter (who is
almost 3) bye It took all I had not to cry. All day for the last 2 days I
have found myself fighting back tears about EVERYTHING…Kind of reminds me of
when I was pregnant..LOL Anyone experience this BEFORE surgery?? I know it is
something we go through after…I know all drs and all hospitals are different
and each person is different but I have a couple questions.

For those of you who went to ICU for the first 24 hours. if you arrive in ICU
between visiting hours did they let your family see you? Then after that they
had to follow visiting hours?

How long after surgery before you have something to drink?

my big day is monday nov 17 2003

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

hello all, I am so glad you are all here to talk to. My surgery date
is this coming monday, nov 17th at 12:30 p.m. I have waited a
long time for this. I had a surgery date about a month ago, and I
had an ulcer, so they couldn’t do it. It is really frustrating when it
gets delayed like that. I am a little nervous. I weigh 270 lbs. I feel
so old. I want my life back.i know it will be hard for a while. I have
had gallbladder surgery back in the 80’s and it was hard on me,
and I figure this will be too. i know it will just take time. I am
worried about eating slow enough. I am so used to drinking
down big glasses of milk (my favorite) I am going to try hard to
make this work. I can keep you all posted on my progress if you
would like. I am going to put a picture on my profile I know i like
to look at before and after photos. To all, I wish you much joy,
happiness, and quick recoveries. ms1guitar ( Betty)
