8 days Post Op

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Hi all this is Alex in Jacksonville, Fl.

For all of you that are close or haven’t made up your mind. I just
want so so mine went textbook great. I had open (34 staples, to show
for it) RNY, I got out of the hospital after 4 days on sat, until
monday was on clear liquid, then monday the nurse called me and I
progressed to full liquids, which added soupy cereal and cream soups
through a strainer, the nurse also said I had to walk an hour a day.
Next monday I go to get my staples and G tube out. I have no problem
with eating or anything else except some gas pains and of course
tenderness in the stomach area, The day before surgery I was 275
1/5/04 today 1/14/04 I weigh 265. Great to be on the other side, so
all is not horror stories lots of successful open RNY’s. The best
tips I can give you is 1. Walk as soon as possible after surgery. 2.
It hurts so bad it brings trears to your eyes, BUT YOU MUST USE THE

Post Op pain in leg

Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Hi, I am 2 weeks post op, have been taking it easy and am doing
great. I have the hint of a charlie horse in the back of one of my
legs. Is this common? I was thinking it was just from spending so
much time off my feet. Does anyone know the symptoms for blood
clots and how far after surgery they might occur?

I welcome your responses.

Thanks, Shay Tigner

I need your oppinion

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

Hello All, my name is Betty, I had my surgery on nov,17th 2003. I
am also able to eat more than I think I am supposed to, too. I
have never been sick once,I can eat whatever I want, I do follow
the guidelines . I eat what I am supposed to for the stage I am
at. But my stomach doesn’t feel much different than it did before,
and I think I eat more than I should. I don’t try to stretch my
pouch, I am very careful. I have been having sharp pains in my
stomach, I felt like I stretched my stomach, the muscle or
something, what I want to know is do you think I am ok, or do I
need to get a check up to see if the surgery was done correctly? I
have lost 45lbs since nov 17th is that good? please let me know
your thoughts, I want this surgery to work so badly,Thank You all
so very much, sincerely, Betty

seeking opinions

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Hello everyone,

I would like for any one who hasn’t felt comfortable with the doctor after
the operation or anyone who has gotten a second opinion to please advise me.
I had my operation on 9/29, on 10/8 was admitted with a leak for 29 days.
That’s done, and behind me. During my first month I lost about 30 pounds.
However the next check up a month later, I actually gained 2 pounds. While
upset,
my doctor assured me it was my body adjusting, that I had lost too much to
fast, as my 3 weeks in the hospital were completely with NOTHING BY MOUTH. So I
just had a check up on Friday, and I’d lost 10 pounds. Now, while there i
sn’t any thing wrong with losing 10 pounds, and over all I’ve actually lost 47
pounds, my concern is my ability to eat such quantity of food. While most
people on this list post surgery talk about the little they eat, I am quite
truthfully able to eat, as an example–Sunday went to Texas Roadhouse. I ate

blood workup results - 6 weeks out

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I was just wondering after having a baseline blood-workup done 6 weeks after
surgery at my PCP’s office. Is it normal to have a low iron reading due to the
surgery? The reference range is between 60-160 and my reading was 45. My
calcium, B-12 are normal. But my Globulin is high at 4.1 (reference range is
1.9 - 3.8) What does Globulin do? I’m just curious as I don’t have an
appointment with my doctor till the first of February and I need to know if I
should be concerned about the iron before then.
Thanks

emotional thing anyway but now to be told after all this time i am
not covered. i feel very drained. dont know what the next step is. i
was told by insurance today that they would send it for review. i
should know something in 5to 7days. this has been a hard week. but im

vitamin toxicity

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Hi all.. Has anyone heard of getting toxic from vitamins? Have a friend who had
lap roux-n-y about 3 months ago. She is doing ok except now she has elevated
liver enzymes and thought maybe it was from vitamin toxicity. She was taking 4
childrens multivits daily. I thought that might be too much . I am 4 months
out and only take one chewable multivit. Curious to see if anyone else has
experienced elevated liver enzymes post op. There was no liver problems preop.
thanks for your help.
