One More Protein Question….Thanks

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

First of all thanks for all the help…you guys and gals are the best.

I am currently doing 2-3 shakes a day at 35 grams of protein per
shake….However, I just learned we can only absorb 30 grams at a time so I am
gonna have
to change that up some…What I need to know is how long do I need to wait
between shakes?

Thanks so much for your help!

… Constipation

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Hello All ~

Since it seems anything goes as far as topics… Does anyone have
constipation? I have had it to the point of having to go to the
doctor and have X-rays to be sure I don’t have a twisted or torn
bowel. I get severe stomach convulsions and am completely blocked.
My labs show elevated liver enzymes. It seems to help if I take a
sip of Milk of Magnesia every day.

Any suggestions or experiences you can share would be great.

Thanks, Shay

New guy on the block

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Hello to all. My name is Ed, and I am trying to get my doctor to
write me a referral, so I can have the surgery for being overweight.
I am 48 years old, and just weighted the last week at 430 pounds. My
wife and I have tried every option offered by our doctor, but none
seem to work, so, we have come to the decision that the surgery is
the best bet for me. We both have tried the counting
calories, weightwatchers, and even the carb diet thing to control my
weight, but nothing seems to work. I live 2 hours south of St. Louis
Mo. and I am wanting to have my surgery done there. So, I would love
to be a part of this group now…. Ed

protein question for post ops…Thyroid question also!

Monday, November 27th, 2006

For those of you who say you drink 6/8 protein drinks a day.First of all When
did you have surgery and how much weight have you lost (Just curious if the
added protein is helping from others i have talked to…even though I know
everyone is different) second Do you mean scoops or actual drinks? because I
mix
mine 2 scoops at a time (35 grams of protein) and drink 2a day Which is 70
grams of protein. Plus what I eat in foods! I am required to get 80 by my
surgeon. If its a day where I can not eat as much I do 2 1/2 of these
shakes..which
is equal 5 scoops of protein powder (87.5 grams of protein)…Should I increase
this? The weight loss has slowed down A LOT. I am 3 months out and I am
loosing on average 3 pounds a week right now.

Also, Anyone know if i had to take thyroid meds before surgery and have not
been put back on them yet if that would slow the weight loss down? I am waiting

3 month checkup…A little vent

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Ok. First of all for all the post ops…do you actually see your surgeon at
your checkups?
I had a checkup at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months. I have not seen my surgeon
none of these 3 times. All they do is weigh me, take me to a room and his
little teeny bopper I guess Assistant comes in. Ask how I am doing. Any
questions….Well every time I ask her a question she gets this deer in the head
light
look and doesnt really answer my question thoroughly. Today my question was
about light headedness. I have it EVERY day but some days worse than others. So
I
asked if this was normal with post ops…Her response was..Well I know I do
that every once in a while when my blood sugar goes low so you need to just have
something handy to you can take a bite of. well….The discussion before that
was that I am living on protein drinks. I can hardly eat any "real" food at
all without getting the tooooo full feeling or throwing up…so how is having a

weighty issues — ha ha

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Just read the one post on narrow minded people regarding surgery.

I was at the sear catalog store here and the women asked me for my drivers
license and looked at me and then finally said =="what did you do?" I told
her weight loss surgery and she said well it’s definitely working. We
started talking and she told me I don’t need to loose any more — I told her
I definitely would like to loose at least 50 - 60 pounds more

Had to laugh I was carrying a 35 pound pail of laundry soap. Geeze It was
heavy but I really had to laugh cause I used to carry 145 pounds on this
body more but can’t hardly carry a 35 pound pail.

My humor for the day —– guess I better start lifting weights

Daily Limits

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

A friend of mine on another list named Sherra has put this together,
and I wanted to share it with the list. Someone had asked her about
daily limits of calories/carbs/ etc. for success. It’s what has
worked for her, and she’s 2 years out and maintaining.

I really don’t count stuff other than how many shakes I do and my
fiber
(need 25 to 30 grams per day minimum for good colon health). When I
have
input my food choices into fitday, They end up being around 1100
calories
give or take 100 calories. Some days it is more but it is rare. My
