UPDATE: 1 YEAR (long)

Friday, December 15th, 2006

As I think about the past year it has been incredible. I wouldn’t change my
mind or do I ever regret having my surgery. The only thing I find real
discouraging is the fact that I seem stuck in a platau — But I find it even
hard to complain too much about that as I have lost 146 pounds in this one
year time frame — And in life prior to surgery I’ve never lost that much in
a 1 year time frame. It may seem like I put it on that quick ha — just
some humor.

It is just amazing the things that are "more normal" But the other day I
was shopping in the regular section at a clothing store and I keep waiting
for someone a clerk or another person to say — this section is for smaller
people you need to go to the plus section — Geeze just guess I need to
change those tapes. But it will come.

The other positives are making multiple trips to go get something that is

New Kid in the Group!

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Hiya to everyone-

Just to tell ya a little about myself I am 22 years old and I
have been heavy my entire life, my doctor just recently told me that
I now fit into the group labled "Super Obese" I have amassed a
ghastly 510pds. and between my doctor and I have tried everything
possible from pills to Richard Simmons to the Atkins diet and even
starvation but nothing has worked yet. He has now brought up the
idea of going for WLS, at first thought the idea scared me and I had
alot of questions many of which he was able to answer, so now I am
playing a waiting game starting with trying to find an insurance
company, I am unable to work and am recieveing unemployment which
disqualifies me for Medicaid and Medicare shot down my doctors bid
to list me as disabled because they said I can still work from home
on the computer. My doctor told me that without this surgery I can

Post op complications, need some food info quick

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

I had a gastric bypass last Tuesday. It was successfuly surgically,
but, while I was in the hospital, I had an unusual amount of pain
and started having chills. I was not registering a fever and the
nurses told me that feeling very hot and sweating is common post op.

I was discharged on Thursday and felt ready to go home, was running
a fever by Friday night. By last night, it was over 101 and my
doctor had me go to the emergency room for a CT scan. Fortunately, I
don’t have any problems with the surgery but I DO have a bladder and
early kidney infection. Lots of fun NOT though everyone was nice to
us, six hours, 3 botched IV’s on the way to a headstart with
intraveneous antibiotics and my husband and I were really flagging
by the time we left.

I was sent home with a prescription for Cipro and instructions to

OPPS, re: the filter

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

Many apologies, somehow I sent this the previous without do the actual email.
I had the filter put in prior to my surgery. Apparently my doctor does a
part and parcel of his particular methodology.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect. It was out patient. I drove myself
over, apparently, I didn’t understand I would be expected to have someone drive
me home. Went, got ready, and it was a relatively quick procedure. I
honestly don’t recall that much about it. Seemed to me like there was a lot of
pushing and pressing, not exactly pain, more like discomfort when someone pokes
on
you too hard. Had to simply lie there for a little bit after the procedure.
Actually I was awake, but it was rather "boring" and I just don’t recall much
about it.
Afterwards I was wheeled out to "wait" for my ride. I didn’t have one, I
hadn’t really appreciated I absolutely had to have a ride. So I told my nice
attendant, I was going to call, and would have a little bit of a wait. She
