Obesity surgery

I am in the process of getting gastric bypass and I am feeling
really guilty-this is the story-all my life I’ve struggled with
obesity-need I say more and my mom did too-it literally killed her-
high blood pressure and diabetes etc-so I am so relieved that there
is finally help and I am taken advantage of it-doing all my research
reading -talking to people-support groups etc. I’m on the right
track-good surgeon-good insurance etc. I have 4 kids 2 step 2
biological-3 are thin-my daughter is 50 pounds overweight-she is 14
and we all know at least those of us who were chubby kids and fat
adolescents how tough this can be especially in this day and age
when bellys are showing too much!!–anyway she has add also so she
takes straterra -now her psychiatrist is giving her adderal which is
an amphetamine to curb her appetite-she is struggling so and is
always hungry and moody-She constantly goes on line looking for a
quick fix like the diet patch and other products. It breaks my heart-

The next meeting of the Queens Metro Surgical Weight Loss Support

The main topic of discussion for this meeting will be exercise and
commitment. At our meeting we will have our second speaker. Paula
Nahoum is a Certified Personal Trainer that has had gastric bypass
surgery. Paula had her surgery three years ago and has maintained
her weight loss of 140 pounds (way to go). We are fortunate to have
Paula speak at our meetings since she has a very hectic schedule. I

hi everyone thanks for answer to my last post. now i have another concern i am
sorryt full of questions. i kniw that as of 2 wks post op i lost 19lbs. now i
feel like i haven’t lost another ounce. my clothes do not feel any different i
figure i shoukd be losing not gaining i don’t think i can eat enough at this
point to gain and half the time i almost forget to eat. i just started eating
ground meat this week. i had a few instances where it did not agree with me but
i know this stage is basically trial and error. i am just worried that i coud
stop losing so quickly after surgery. i do not mean to ask silly questions but i
didn’t do this to lose 20 lbs and not feel any better. thanks terry

hi my name is terry and i have been reading the mesages since last november. i
had my surgery on june 17 2004 and feel pretty good about it. i had my post op
appt already and doc says i am doing great. i am very nervous about eating and
drinking too much right now. i am still on liquids until july 4th. everything i
have tried i have no problem with so far except i do find i do not like the
taste of coffee anymore. does everyone worry about this in the very beginning?

PCP who is understanding of obesity and supportive of gastric bypass
surgery-I can see someone in lower westchester like White Plains etc-

surgery is to be next monday. After trying everything for lose
weight, this seems to be my last alternative.
Next september My husband and I are goint to move to Toronto. It
will be very useful if anyone of this group could indicate me a good
physician to make may recovery observation in Canada.

Right after my surgery I had to take oral antibiotics. Someone here
gave me a great quick ice milk (Lactaid and Splenda) recipe that
helped me keep those meds down. This saved me from going back to
the hospital for IV antibiotics. Three months later, I’m much
recovered, 55 lbs. lighter and very grateful! I now need to give
this recipe to someone who has had the surgery and is having
complications and can’t keep the meds down. I can’t find it!!!!

It has to do with putting Lactaid and Splenda in a baggie. I think
that is then surrounded with another baggie with ice cubes and salt.
But I can’t remember the amounts.

I recently went to a new Dr for a physical and I spoke to her about
my weight and the history etcbackto childhood. She was real skinny
and although she is probably a good dr it worried me when she said 2
patients lost their weight on LA weight loss systems as well
asJennie Craig.She said she had one gastric bypass patient who had
it reversed. I really didn’t know what to think. She also said just
eat protein the size of your palm and that whole thing. Lord knows
I’ve been at this long enough to know this. She told me I won’t be
able to eat like I did before and I told her that would certainly be
the lesser of the 2 evils-I don’t care I just want my life to be
healthy and less weight to deal with. My gynocologist who is in the
same medical group thought bypass could be a good solution for me.
She knows me a long time and knows it is real difficult for me to
lose weight. I have over 120 lbs to lose so I am a candidate and
even have an appointment with a top surgeon who is very experienced.
