worried about my daughter

I am in the process of getting gastric bypass and I am feeling
really guilty-this is the story-all my life I’ve struggled with
obesity-need I say more and my mom did too-it literally killed her-
high blood pressure and diabetes etc-so I am so relieved that there
is finally help and I am taken advantage of it-doing all my research
reading -talking to people-support groups etc. I’m on the right
track-good surgeon-good insurance etc. I have 4 kids 2 step 2
biological-3 are thin-my daughter is 50 pounds overweight-she is 14
and we all know at least those of us who were chubby kids and fat
adolescents how tough this can be especially in this day and age
when bellys are showing too much!!–anyway she has add also so she
takes straterra -now her psychiatrist is giving her adderal which is
an amphetamine to curb her appetite-she is struggling so and is
always hungry and moody-She constantly goes on line looking for a
quick fix like the diet patch and other products. It breaks my heart-

I have sent her to fat camps and everything and I see her heading
down the same road-is it crazy for me to think of her needing this
surgery-I realize she is not as overweight as I am-I’m over 250lbs
and 5′4" so there is no comparison but she is younger and smaller-
maybe I am just feeling guilty because I will be helped and she
won’t-Last time I saw her pediatrician she said you both need to be
on a diet together-maybe I will be helping her if I can help myself
to stop the cycle-I hardly ever compulsively eat but I have an
appetite obviously-I guess when I am forced to eat a certain way I
will be a better role model-any thoughts would be appreciated.

Andrea, when you get through your initial phases after your weight loss
surgery, you will be eating (should be eating) protein first, veges second,
and if you ahve any space left, a starch. That’s an excellent eating program,
and you can ask your daughter to join you, except she can have larger
portions. After all, she’s an active child, I would assume, and will need more
    calories.
That’s my thoughts on the matter <G>.

I have been post surgery for about 5 months and it is easy to do
with kids around too. My daughter is a bit overweight but she now
comes with me when I go swimming. She eats normally, but we make
sure there are fruits, vegetables along with meat. She can eat alot
more than I can now, but she is enjoying the exercise that is
necessary and a part of my daily life now and I am enjoying her
company but also seeing her slim down as well is a nice plus. If
the habit of daily or almost daily exercise is part of her
upbringing now she may never have to go through what I have. Kids
are not nice to fat kids.
