the hospital for 5 days and had a drain. my mom recently went for a
consultation to a different doctor. they told her that she would be

Different doctors have different requirements. They also do
surgeries that are not always the same, but are all called gastric
bypasses. So, yes, her protocol can differ significantly from
yours.

My surgeon is now requiring those going to have surgery to do a liquid diet
anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks before surgery. They say it makes the liver
smaller making surgery easier and it is better for recovery. Some people
were having trouble losing the weight before the surgery and this also
helped those who were stalled. Prep before surgery is easier too if liquid
diet is used. It also helps train the person about how it will be the weeks
after surgery. IT is important to understand you can not eat the way you
did before surgery. They already have a routine and supplies set up. The
medical profession is always coming up with new ideas on how to make the
recovery easier on the patients. My brother was in two days, no drains and
they did it laproscopic.I was in the hospital 6 days but they did an open
procedure and I had 3 drains. My brother had no prep before surgery, now
there is a prep by my surgery group for all patients.
