OUR FOUR MILE HIKE
Our Four Mile Hike
On Sunday August 29th at 8:30 am we had our usual walk. The weather
was hot and humid or NY summertime yuck. I was hoping that we would
not have any walkers so I could go back to bed. If you think I enjoy
waking up early on a Sunday morning get real! Each Sunday I hope
that nobody shows up, but I have been wrong every Sunday. We have
walked through the heat of the summer and through a few rain storms.
I am telling you guys now, I am not walking when we have snow or ice
storms.
This week’s walkers included Carol (she still does not believe she
is losing weight—but down many sizes), Sophie who just got back from
her vacation in Las Vegas, Steve, who probably never went home on
Saturday night and is working on his six pack, Benson and Fern (guys
we really start at 8:30am). Bettyane we miss you please tell us about
your trip to Florida. We all agreed it was hot and began to walk.
BTW every Sunday in the park a Yogi school holds a free class that
begins at 8:00am. I do have my limits, and I am not getting out of
bed earlier.
We never know the route we are going to take, I asked everyone if
they were up to a long walk and everyone said yes (damn- I am not
getting a break). So we walked the Little Bay Park then headed up to
Utopia Parkway. Benson and Fern were sharing the hand weights. Fern
carried the weights most of the route, what a gal she is. We passed
the bagel store and the talk was where and when are we eating
breakfast. Guys it was to early in our walk to eat breakfast. I am
glad none of us had any money on us. We proceeded to walk to 26th
Avenue and then down to 26th Avenue to the Bay Terrace Shopping
Center. Hey where are the trees for shade? We then walked up the
hills on Bell Blvd and walked back into the park. We all walked four
miles. How many of us could have walked four blocks last year? Try
none of us. Our lives have changed in many different ways since
surgery. No more C-pap machines, who takes medication for high blood
pressure, diabetes and other ailments?
After our walk he decided to have breakfast at Napoleons. (They have
great ice coffee). We ordered breakfast and yacked for at least one
hour. The conversation included our usual talk about food and few
other fun things to do as a group. Should this be our official
breakfast HANGOUT?
We all understand the weight loss surgery is a tool and we have to
help it along by walking and exercise. We are very fortunate that
the World Health Club of Mineola will be starting two exercises
classes for post-op patients on Thursday September 9th at 7:30 pm and
Saturday September 11th at 1:00pm. The cost for 10 classes is
$70.00. This is a great deal. Hiring a personal trainer at many
health clubs for 10 sessions would cost at least $650.00.
I’ll see you guys this Sunday at 8:30 am.
