loss of a family member

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

my step cousin found his wife dead on the couch last week. In may she had the
gastric bypass surgery, she had lost 73 pounds.
her surgeon put her through the hoops, and found out she had a heart problem.
they did the surgery anyway. Last week she took herself to the ER, she was in
pain and didn’t know why. the doctors looked her over and sent her home. she
died less 3 days later.

Do i still want this surgery? Yes, i am placing my life e rin God’s & my Dr.’s
hands. My doctor has not had anyone die, yet… i know that there is a small
chance something could go wrong, i am sure it will work out for the best.

I guess the reason i am sharing this is because if it makes one person
understand why all the tests are so important. A good doctor would not have
went ahead with that surgery until they were 100% sure her heart could take the

Craving Salt

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Hi,
I am 6 1/2 months post op and have been doing great! Lately (the last 6 weeks
or so) I have been having incredible salt cravings. My mouth waters for
cashews, corn on the cob, hard boiled eggs and even sometimes popcorn. Has
anyone else experienced this? Could I be low on a particular vitamin? I am
REALLY good about taking my vitamins, eating and drinkin protein, drinking
plenty of water, and exercising. So far my labs have come back good. I am
struggling though. Does anyone have any healthy tips on how to handle this?

Thanks, Shay

just a question

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I have been just reading the posts, my name is Julie and i am hoping to have
the surgery sometime soon.

my question is on family support in this process, my mom is behind me all the
way, my sister however isn’t. she thinks if i would just diet the way "normal"
people do and really try, that i could do it. I’ve been there, done that and
more. The thing is that she has always been smaller than me, she now is having
problems with her weight. If i have this surgery i could stand a chance to
actually be smaller than her for the first time in our lives.

can any of you identify with this problem of mine?

as always,
Julie

A Little Trouble

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Okay, so I am 4 months post surgery and I have lost 83lbs so far!
The only problem that I am really running into is that I’m wanting to
snack or munch at certain times during the day. Does anyone have any
advice for getting over it or something I should do? I really want
to make this work and so far I have been doing a good job. I
exercise 6 days a week at my local gym and I’ve been following my
nurse’s advice on eating as closely as possible. I was hoping that
someone could let me know what really kept them going, how did you
tackle the emotional eating? I don’t have anyone I know who has been
through this, and while my family and friends are incredibly
supportive, its hard not to have someone who knows exactly what I’m
going through.

I also have to ask…is there anyone who went through this and was
really worried that it wasn’t going to work for them? I am so scared
