hiatal hernia open vs Lap ?

I have a surgery date for 10/18 and I had my pre-op visit-the doc
told me I had a hiatal hernia which I knew since I had a barium
swallow due to swallowing problem a year ago and found out at that
time that I had a nice size one. Does this interfere with having the
laproscopic RYN and could it mean that I may need an open procedure?
Just wondering, also does this also influence the insurance company
as far as their making a decision since I am still pending they are
just waiting for the test results etc-thanks- Andrea

I know I had to have an open procedure because they thought I had a huge hernia.
Actually it ended up being a huge hematoma caused by an auto accident. Having a
hernia or not should not influence the insurance company. They just did
multiple procedures on me all at the same time which was suppose to be the
hernia repair (just a temp fix), gallbladder removal, and the gastric bypass. I
was not given the option of a Laproscopic procedure. The doctor should know
before the surgery if he still can do the Lap.
