post op update

hello there.

I had bypass on 9/22 and was discharged 9/24. I have experienced
some hunger pains but i find that drinking protein settles my belly.

I have my first post-op visit on 9/29.

    hello

I went to my first post op appt. I was down 22 lbs. I was shocked
by the tremendous amount of weight loss. Is that mormal?

I was place on the semi-soft/pureed diet which has agreed with me
better than the liquid diet. My staples were removed and over all I
    was good to go.

I dont return to dr until 10/28.

Yep, this is normal. You’re on your way, Catherine. <G> Be sure to get
your supplements and protein drinks in, because you need the nutritional
support during this very fast weight-loss period.

    Hi Catherine,

    Congratulations!!! I’m just starting the
process. What have you found to be the best way
to mix the protein drinks? I know that we’ll be
drinking them for quite a while and that they
help healing but I’ve heard they taste nasty.

Blend for however long it takes to grind the ice down to ice cream
texture. This one I eat with a spoon.

Be sure you eat it within 30 minutes or 45 at the most, because
since there are no preservatives in most of the good whey proteins,
    it starts to degrade.

I don’t use milk (can’t digest the proteins or the calcium from it,
so why bother, all you’re left with is lactose, which is a milk
sugar - and lots of us become lactose intolerant with our surgery).
Have used crystal lite (the new sunrise - orange flavored one is
nice with vanilla or orange or banana flavored wheys) or some of the
    low carb flavored waters.

I will say this, you CAN find one you like the taste of. It may take

trying a number of samples, but you will find one you like. For
those who have problems with the whey taste or smell, I always
suggest they drink it out of a sippy cup, or with a straw, or one of
those dark purple gladware cups with a lid.
