Welcome to the list, Donna. I haven’t had a lapband, but there are lists out
there for people who have had the band. My understanding is that the loss
rate is slower and that it’s more of a fight to get to goal and keep it off
than the RNY, but once you get past the complications for a slipped band,
etc., it’s less invasive and you have potentially fewer nutritional
deficits. There are bandsters who love their bands and wouldn’t have
anything else.
You are hiring your doctor, why are you not able to tell him what procedure
you want? Does he not do an RNY? Has he done more bands than RNYs? You
want to get a doctor who has a lot of experience in whatever procedure he’s
doing. If it were me, and I felt strongly about having an RNY, I’d find
another doctor. But that’s just me. If you’re not happy, in the long run,
there’s a good chance you’ll be wanting to be revised to the surgery you
felt you should have had at first, and then you’ve had 2 operations.
