just a little info
Hello all, I’m just giving my two cents worth. When I had my
laproscopic gastric bypass, I was told by my doctor that I would be
on clear liquids for a week, I was on them 8 days. Then on that
next day, I started eating full liquids. I was on them for another
week, so thats 2 weeks post op. On the 15th day, I started on
pureed foods, boy that was an experience. I had sneaked in a little
solid food before my pureed diet, and boy did I get an ear full. I
didn’t realize what that could cause….let me warn you…DEATH!!!!
My doc told me since that all the instines and the pouch and such
weren’t fully healed, so in turn if I did manage to get some solid
food in me, that by some chance it could seap through the lining
that wasn’t fully recovered and leak onto other organs inside your
body, and no matter how well they got to it, most of the time they
couldn’t stop the infection and it could cause death. After that
little conversatioin, I did exactly what he told me to do…..so
please listen to your doctor in whatever he says, he does know what
he’s talking about. Don’t listen to your friends, they have never
performed this surgery before, unless they are a doctor. About two
weeks after the pureed foods, I started eating just softer foods, I
was too scared to advance to completely solid foods, which in turn
was a good thing, my stoma was too small and I had to be scoped.
Which made it bigger and now I’m fine. But milk is what I can drink
the most…kinda weird cause some people I know who have had it,
can’t. So I guess I’m a lucky one, I do drink the 1% milk though,
can’t do the skim….yuck. I do a lot of shakes, protein, with the
gastric bypass eating all the proteins you can won’t help since
their serving could be 5 ounces of something, and has 29 grams of
protein, that means you can only do maybe 3 ounces of it…so it’s
not the full amount of protein. Just read the labels as Pam has
said. Even though I’m almost 3 months op, she has helped me a great
deal, and by just reading the labels I know what I can and can’t
have. Just that simple. And some of you maybe bored…please don’t
be, it’s possible to gain most of your weight back, I know of
serveral people personally that had lost almost 200 pounds and gain
back 100 of it….get out after the doc has released you to the
gym…I urge you, cause once you get just a little off of you, you
feel great….omg, I’ve lost just 57 pounds so far, and I’m doing
things I haven’t been able to do in a loooonnnggg time. I make sure
I don’t get bored…go out for a walk, read a book, just remember if
you eat, it can stretch your pouch…and the only way to shrink it
back is to be on the liquid diet again for about 2 weeks…remember
that. This is not a diet, this is the way you’ll eat for the rest
of your life. I know that I got bored after a few weeks, but after
I couldn’t have what I really wanted, I didn’t even want it, it
pretty much peeed me off to where I didn’t want it…so I ate what
I’m supposed to and go on, remember to MEASURE, it’s easily to get
over stuffed and hurt yourself. Measure, measure, measure.
Alright, if any one has any more questions, either Pam or myself may
can help…have a great day, and remember it’s not the weight, it’s
how you feel.
