POst OP and eating problems

I am just over 3 1/2 months post op and am still having trouble eating
solids. I fill up too fast because of the mucous lying on my tummy. (I have
bad
allergies and sinus problems and take benadryl to cut down on the amt of
mucous I swallow during the night and daytime.) A lot of the time I throw up
because of the mucous. I have a terrible time eating out because it feels like
the first bite gets stuck halfway down. I cannot tolerate the protein
drinks. They are so nauseating to me. If I feel the least bit nauseated, I
throw
up. I am beginning to think this is all in my head. I am also having
trouble getting enough fluids down.

I guess I am lucky because most food doesn’t even tempt me. Let alone
sweets and other things I shouldn’t have.

My incision is finally almost healed. Remember, I was sent home by the
military doctors with a bad infection and went to another hospital emergency
room and spend a few days there under the direction of a new surgeon who had no
idea about the gastric by-pass. He was great in taking me on and getting me
thru the healing of the incision though.

Miki, I’m concerned about not getting liquids down. I know I had a problem
with water, too, but we dehydrate so easily, and it’s not good. Can you do
a little lemon in your water, or maybe heat your water a tad, or something?
I know lemon in water will cut the mucous (I have a lot of the same problems
you have), in fact some docs recommend lemon water first thing in the
morning - would that help? - maybe with a little splenda?.

What protein drinks have you tried? It may be a case of your not finding
one you like - or if it’s the smell (which it frequently is..) drinking in a
sippy cup, or putting a piece of saran wrap over your glass with a straw
through will help cut down on the "protein" smell. I also find that the
adding of 1/8 tsp of cinnamon to my shakes helps a lot.

I basically plan on leftovers from my meals out. I eat very little and chew
chew chew - chewing to liquid.

Take care, and I hope you continue to get better and better.

    Take care,

Pam, Does the lemon in the water keep you from throwing up the mucous?

Pam, I got a big asst of protein drinks from vita lady. It is just I get so
nauseated when I drink them. I even cut them severely with water, tried
    milk, just makes me sick.

My experience is that it helps to cut the mucous and causes it to go on
through. Doesn’t have to be as heavy with lemon as lemon aid.

Well, milk makes me sick, too <G>. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you,
because without protein you begin to use your muscles, and your heart is a
    muscle.
