just a little info

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Hello all, I’m just giving my two cents worth. When I had my
laproscopic gastric bypass, I was told by my doctor that I would be
on clear liquids for a week, I was on them 8 days. Then on that
next day, I started eating full liquids. I was on them for another
week, so thats 2 weeks post op. On the 15th day, I started on
pureed foods, boy that was an experience. I had sneaked in a little
solid food before my pureed diet, and boy did I get an ear full. I
didn’t realize what that could cause….let me warn you…DEATH!!!!
My doc told me since that all the instines and the pouch and such
weren’t fully healed, so in turn if I did manage to get some solid
food in me, that by some chance it could seap through the lining
that wasn’t fully recovered and leak onto other organs inside your
body, and no matter how well they got to it, most of the time they
couldn’t stop the infection and it could cause death. After that
little conversatioin, I did exactly what he told me to do…..so

Dear Friends and other WLS Patients,

How else can I show my gratitude for having weight loss surgery than
to participate in walk to aid in cancer research and help the victims
of cancer? Which family has not been witnessed the horror of cancer.

We always have the memory how obesity effected our lives. Many of
have returned to be productive and happy in our lives. Please
support me in this effort to fight cancer.

6 days RNY post op

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Hi everyone,
My name is Kim and I had a open gastric bypass on March 9th. Today
I am looking for some support with stage 2 eating. I have only
managed to get in little amounts of protein drinks all day. I have
tried jello, popcicles, broth and I am already bored. Is there
anything else I can have?

good eating

I had a bowel movement 2 days after my surgery, I had the gastric
bypass, and usually they tell you to only eat full liquids before the
surgery, so I didn’t have much in me to begin with. But it was the
day I was leaving the hospital I had a bowel movement, which was the
2nd day. I prefer the gastric bypass over the lap band. I know that
there are not more complications with the band, but I would rather be
this way for the rest of my life. Because this is the way it should
be and not being addicted to food, or not being able to just lose the
weight by just dieting….it’s not a diet, it’s the way of life now,
and I have never felt so good in my whole life, I can do whatever I
want to know, even though I’m down 57 pounds 10 weeks post op. Now,
I can go to the gym which I have been for the past few weeks, I go 3x
a week, and feel wonderful. If there are any questions out there
that I may be able to help with, just let me know. "a smaller me"

4 Days Post RNY Lap

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Hello everyone ~

I am new to this group. I am hoping that there is someone out there
this evening that can set some of my worries at ease. I am 4 days
post RNY lap. I am still on the liquids diet (day 15 now!!!) and I
am running low on energy. I have developed pains in my sides - like
I ran too much or something… Is there anyone who has had similar
feelings? I am not taking anything for pain - as I can’t take
narcotic pain meds without vomitting and the children’s tylenol is
so sweet that it makes me gag.

Am I just beginning to stress for no reason???

Thanks for your help!!

Bread???

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I have some questions. I have finally made it into 2 months post op,
and have been trying different foods. I know hot spicy foods is not
my best friend anymore, corn chips is a no no, and I believe pickles,
like hamburger pickles is my total enemy. I’ve learned a lot since
eating solid food, and what I can have a lot of like salad, salad is
really good and if you’re hungry then you eat a lot of it. Well,
I’ve learned after having been scoped and making the stoma bigger I
did much better for about two weeks. Then that second week, I wasn’t
able to eat bread of any kind, toast, white bread or even wheat
bread. I am assuming it’s because it expands, is this true? If
anyone knows this, please let me know. When I became sick Dr. Bolar
wanted to do a scope again and I didn’t want too, finally that
evening I was able to eat something without it coming back to visit
me. On a lighter note, I’ve lost 46 pounds in almost 8 weeks, but
haven’t weighed in for the 8th weeks, so 46 pounds in 7 weeks

YAY!!! Valentine’s Day

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I never knew what it was like to walk or stand for a good amount of
time until I had this surgery. I have been able to walk for at least
3 hours at the mall without pain so severe I had to sit every 10
minutes. I have been able to clean my own house without having to
stop in every room to sit and rest. I have been able to be more
intimate with my husband, which is quite nice lol. I can’t ever
remember feeling this good and my doctor told me that I was just on
the tip of the iceburg. This is the happiest I’ve been except for
when my daughter was born. This is such a wonderful life, I don’t
ever want to go back. My husband says it’s like being married to a
new woman, and he says that he feels like he’s kinda cheating, lol.
He has never been so happy for me. I never imagined that this would
happen so fast but it has and I wouldn’t do it any other way….and
*knock on wood* I haven’t had major complications, but if I do or
had, I would do this over a hundred times, and wouldn’t change

1 year post-op blood tests

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Hello to all,
Does anyone know what blood tests are done at the 1 year post
gastric bypass checkup ? I am seeing a Doctor tomorrow morning and
asking him to run some blood tests. He asked me to find out what
tests need to be done. I am his first patient that has had a
gastric bypass.
The doctor that did my bypass is over 12 hours away. So, going to
see him is not doable. I am dizzy and I am having really bad pains
in my head. I thought it was migraines brought on by getting hit in
the head last week. But, maybe not.
I appreciate your help.
sincerely,
Loriann
