		<description>It may sound harsh, but sugar is sugar! The fact that it is natural does
NOT mean it is good for us. After all, hemlock and black widow spiders
are also natural. I personally don't dump (darn it!), but I know a lot
of people who do, and dump on fruit. One of my idols had RNY surgery
more than ten years, and has had two (relatively small) regains,
although she has gotten rid of the gain both times. One of the regains
was eating Peeps (yes, those obnoxious marshmallow candies). The other
was on fruit. She has learned that she's okay eating something like half
an apple, but if she starts cutting up fruit and putting it in a bowl,
she will eat WAY too much.

		<description>Sugar is the slippery slope to regaining your weight. When you're in your
fast weight loss phase, you will be able to &#34;get away with&#34; eating a little
sugar now and then, if it doesn't make you dump or give you gawdawful gas
(which is what it does to me) or put you to sleep. However, it slows that
weight-loss down, and it's best to optimize the weight-loss period. Milk
has around 14 gms of sugar a cup, as I recall, and skim milk does not have
less sugar. I call it, after a friend of mine, sugar in a white coat.
Also, we are frequently lactose intolerant after our surgeries, so it can
give us stomach cramps, and cause gas. I would not consider drinking milk
in a glass. I might have a bit of cream in my decaf, though.

Sugars are sugars, whether natural or white. They all slow weight loss down
and can be a trigger to eat more sugars. The majority of us have disturbed
sugar metabolisms, in one form or another.

		<description>Plateaus are normal. After all, we didn't gain all our excess weight at
a steady rate did we? There is an EXTREMELY common plateau called
hibernation, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're in the middle of it.
Timing is right, usually a few weeks after surgery, and it can be a real
!@#!@#!!!! Hang in there, make sure you're getting ENOUGH to eat, and it
will ease.

Oh, regarding protein drink recipes? My favorite is Champion Nutrition's
Pure Whey Stack, in Chocolate. Blend with water and ice, and drink. I
would recommend going to www.vitalady.com and ordering a whole bunch of
samples. They're about two bucks each, and each is good for about 30
grams of protein. You might even try getting two of each that interests
you, since changing exactly how you make it can make a huge difference
in the taste. I mean things like how much water or the temperature, just
shaking or blending with ice, etc. I strongly recommend AGAINST mixing
&lt;!--more--&gt;
them with milk or fruit, at least as a general rule. Both just add a lot

If anyone can answer please do so. I am 3 month post op, and doing
well. I have been goin to the gym 3 times a week and have lost 60
pounds, but there is one thing I'm getting weird about, like for the
past 2 weeks, I feel I have stopped losing. It could just be me,
because I don't own a weight scale just yet. So therefor I don't
weigh in that much, but I can tell if I've lost that week by the way I
feel. Is this normal for it to platow like it has, this early after
surgery? I'm doing everything I need to do, cept for my protein
shakes which I need a good recipe for that, lol. I have watched my
carbs, eating more protein that I can, and another thing, I am
&lt;!--more--&gt;
actually eating more than what I could 2 weeks ago, not much more but
like almost 2 ounces more...the doc said it's normal, but it scares me
cause I don't want to over do it. I don't stuff myself, I just cut
out the hunger pains, and then I'm good, but for only about 3 hours,
is that normal too? I don't go back to the doc til another week and
am worried...but I'll keep trying, thanks Amanda</description>

This is all totally normal! You might get to the point you WON'T lose
any weight, but be sure and take your measurements because many times when
you're not losing weight, you are losing inches! Trust me on this. But
remember too, your weight didn't come on over night and it's not going to
come off over night. When I went back to the doctor one time after 2
months, and those 2 months were through the holidays. Thanksgiving and
Christmas being the 2 biggest and usually hardest with all the food that's
available, I'd only lost 8 lbs. The doctor was more upset then I was. I
still felt so proud of the fact it had been the very first time in all my
life, I'd gone through the holidays and lost weight and NOT gained! I don't
pay any attention to my weight, nor how much I am weighing. I go strictly
on how I'm feeling! It really depends on how much you have to lose, how
fast you lose. I had heaps to lose and have lost 279 lbs and it will be 2
&lt;!--more--&gt;
years come May 5th! *S* I still have 40 more lbs to go and the doctor was
hoping I'd be done by the 18th month, but I don't care about times. All I
know is I feel good, I look good and most importantly I feel good about
myself for the first time in my life! *S* I eat approx 4 to 6 meals a day.
But the key is to eat little ones. If you would write down all you eat in a
day, you're probably not eating much more then 5oo to 600 calories. That's
not much at all. I still try to drink my protein drinks but this is the one
area I've always been slack in and that's probably one reason I've not lost
as quickly as the next person. But then I'm an old lady too at 54 and we
don't lose as quickly as the youngins! *S* I know you've heard the ol
saying you have to feed your body, and this is so true. A person has to
feed it in order to lose. So don't slack here and think you can't eat.
It's what you eat that's important. Choose low cal snacks, healthy snacks!
It seems I eat all day long a little something! Your biggest enemy is
anything white, such as SUGAR, or white flour. Potatoes, limit them because
I still will eat a little one.

This is really good on protein drinks. Take either water or milk
which ever you like to mix with your whey protein, and blend that up, add
some flavoring such as peppermint, root beer, cherry, I love chocolate and
then a little of almond. Mix that together and then add some ice cubes.
This makes it thick and really tastes good. You can also use sugar free ice
cream or sherbet and whip it up in your blender and add your protein powder
and a little milk. This is really good too. I have also mixed my powder
sometimes with diet drinks, such as root beer, orange, etc. And it makes it
taste totally different. There are just so many things you can do with your
drinks to make them yummy! *S*

What type of surgery did you have done? This too will make a
difference.
