I’m new and my surgery is next week

Friday, May 11th, 2007

Hi! My name is Debby and my surgery is next week. About 5 weeks ago I
received insurance approval, met with the surgeon and got my date -
June 22. How do you get through the final week before the surgery? I am
on an optifast diet (5 drinks and 1 candy bar per day - yiich!). I was
supposed to be on it for the two weeks prior to the surgery but went to
one meal and 3 drinks last week with a few slip ups. I am going to
sincerely try to follow the opti-fast regime this week. I am nervous
about the surgery for the regular reasons but also because I had major
back surgery two years ago with complications, so the thought of
surgery again is scary. I have been in an exercise/support group since
February and have been doing all the reading and research and feel
ready. BUT, I’m still so scared. What if it doesn’t work? What if I
have complications? What if I have an open surgery instead of a
laproscopic one? I know I have to think positively, so any positive
support, feedback or suggestions would be really great. My surgery will

Hard to move

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Hello,

Anyone suffer with constipation? I had this problem before the surgery and
nothing has changed. My old fiber remedy seems to give me extra gas and I
already have lots these days. I know that we are all different. One friend
said that now she has gone from hardly being able to go at all to barely
getting on the stool and now it floats. I would appreciate some help.

76 pounds

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Well since December 30th, 2004, I have lost 76 pounds. I am going to
curves 3x a week, walking as well and the only thing I don’t do, is
drink my protein shakes…please help me with this, I have lost a
tremendous amount of my hair, thank God I had a head full or I would
be totally bald, I do have a hair piece that I wear from time to time,
it works great, but I’m soooooo tired of seeing my hair on the
bathroom floor, clogging the sink and tub and finding it in my
clothes…HELP!!!! I know that I’m lacking in protein, but I also
drink more than enough 1 percent milk, which has 8 grams of protein in
a cup….am I not getting enough, I drink about 3 to 4 glasses of milk
a day, plus I’ve added more meat to my diet, baked not fried…if
anyone has a suggestion on good tasting protein drinks, please let me
know. One more question, would anyone know if any insurance company
would pay for skin removal…and if so how did you get them to pay????
Thanks so much, Amanda….

i am on a plateau

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Greetings

This is Catherine from Rochester, NY. I had bypass on 9/22/04. I
weighed 345 and now I am 235. However, the last 5-7 weeks I have been
at a plateau. I need some advice here. I am on BC pills as my cycles
were out of sync to put it mildly. Does that affect weight loss?

I am walking 3 times a week as well as going to Curves M W and F.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hometown HMO insurance/Ohio

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Hi everyone….I’m new to this group and I was wondering if anyone has
had any experience with Hometown HMO insurance ? I recently met a
young lady that had GBP 19 months ago, and she gave me a wonderful
book to read by Barbara Thompson called Weight Loss Surgery….Finding
the Thin Person Hiding Inside You. I’m 5′6" and weigh 291#, I want so
badly to have the surgery, but I can only find 2 Drs. in Akron, Ohio
that do this. One is at a hospital that I’m very afraid of (very bad
family experiences) and the other requires a $2000 deposit, even if
you have insurance coverage. I can’t go outside of Akron because of my
husbands’ work and our car won’t make it anywhere else such as
Cleveland. Any suggestions? Thanks.

what about splenda?

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

I have problems eating sugar, natural or white. It gives me this
really sick feeling and gives me the shakes, like a low sugar. So I
try to stay away, but of course I’ve always been a sugar addict, so
I’ve started using splenda, well ever since the surgery. I was
wondering, I know it’s made from real sugar, is that a good thing gone
wrong, is it something I can have….afterall I hate sweet and low or
equal, yuck, who thinks that actually taste like sugar, someone with
no taste buds, lol, just joking….anyway, wondering about splenda, oh
yeah, as I had said before I love milk, it doesn’t bother me, I’m sure
I’m a lucky one…I guess, cause now I look at the carbs in it, wow
that’s a lot, I can do the skilm milk 1%, but I just can’t do that fat
free totally, but does that hurt as well if it’s not the fat free
totally, cause of the carbs? thanks Amanda
