pre-op nov/28-surgery Dec14/05

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Hi all, just an update. I was denied for out of country coverage for a
2nd time by OHOP (who I work for), so I decided to self-pay and cashed
in my retirement funds. My pre-op went well and my open Roux-en-Y is
to be done on Dec/14/05 at the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Thanks for all the information the group has provided, and any other
tips or hints for post surgery will be appreciated

Six Ways to Stress Less

South Beach Diet Daily Dish

Everyone knows the holiday season brings plenty of joy &mdash as well as the
chaos and stress of last-minute shopping, multiple cocktail parties, and hosting
gatherings for friends and family. What you may not know is that chronic stress
can contribute to the development of illnesses, including migraines, depression,
heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Symptoms of chronic stress (generally
characterized by long term pressure, tension, or strain)include having
difficulty sleeping, not being able to concentrate well, or having trouble
remembering things. People suffering from chronic stress may also become easily
irritable and anxious, or develop head, stomach, and muscle aches. That’s why
it’s so important to keep stress at bay — or at least to manage it effectively.

Fwd: [GastricBypass-LOSERS] THE 10 LAWS OF GUARANTEED WEIGHT LOSS

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

I GOT THIS FROM ANOTHER GROUP SOUNDS GOOD…..
THE 10 LAWS OF GUARANTEED WEIGHT LOSS

1. EXERCISE — A minimum of 20 minutes of aerobic exercise to
increase the heart rate three times per week. Talk to your doctor
and start slowly. More exercise is OK as long as it is sensible and
balanced.

2. EAT HEALTHY — Have balanced meals, more fruits, vegetables and
fish, less red meat and far less junk food. Vitamin supplements
guided by a nutritionist or doctor.

3. EAT LESS — Conscious eating always produces a significant
decrease in food consumption. This can mean as much as 50- to 75-
percent difference in some compulsive eaters.

Finally through with surgery!

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Hello, everyone! Hope you’re all doing well and looking forward to a
wonderful holiday season!

After much anticipation and anxiety on my part, I had my lap band
surgery yesterday morning just before noon. I was released to come
home yesterday evening, and I’m feeling better and better after each
nap I wake up from. (Can’t fight the pain meds from making me sleepy!)

The most difficult part so far has been waiting on that darn gas
bubble to work itself out of my body. I’ve been too sore and groggy to
walk very much, so I’ve just kinda waited it out. And by golly, I
think I’ve finally won the battle between me and the bubble!

I wanted to get other members’ suggestions concerning liquid diet
drinks and mixes. Of course I’ve got a list of the ones that are good

The Influence of Dumping on Weight Loss After Gastric Restrictive Surgery for
Morbid Obesity
Authors: Mallory G.N.1; Macgregor A.M.C.1; Rand C.S.W.2

Source: Obesity Surgery, Volume 6, Number 6, 1 December 1996, pp. 474-478(5)

Publisher: FD Communications Inc.

Abstract:
Background: The dumping syndrome that follows Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for
morbid obesity is considered to be the primary mechanism of improved weight loss
as compared with the purely restrictive vertical banded gastroplasty. To
evaluate the influence of dumping on post-operative weight loss, severity of
dumping was determined using Sigstad’s clinical diagnostic index.
