lab work
Just got my fasting lab work back & my cortisol level is up s/b 3.1-
22.5. Liver enzymes ALT (SGPT) 45 s/b 0-40 which is high. Protein is
6.9 s/b 6.0-8.5, that is good right? b-12 is 865 s/b 211-911. What so
you guys think?
Thanks,
Carol

A couple of things…
We frequently have elevated liver enzymes after surgery - many of us
have had fatty livers due to obesity, and then we filter a lot of stuff
out as we lose weight. And there are lots of meds that affect liver
enzymes. The suggestion is to take milk thistle (which is an herb) - 2
tablets a day. Then get retested. 45 is not like 150, so I’m thinking
the milk thistle will be effective for you. Certainly worth a try. I’d
do it before I’d say ok to a biopsy. Protein is OK, could be better.
Are you doing protein drinks? It’s hard for us to actually digest
protein out of our food. B12 is ok. Are you supplementing with
sublinguals? What was it the last time? For that matter, what was
protein the last time? Cortisol is the stress hormone. Makes it harder
to lose weight. I have the same problem <sigh>. Does your doc have any
suggestions on the cortisol?

i will definitely try the milk thistle. Several people suggested
that. I do take b12 and drink 2 or 3 protein shakes daily. The dr
wants to retest in 3 mths. If the cortisol is still up I will ask
him what I can do. Thanks so much for the info!
