I am sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I had my RNY June
16,2004. I have had some gains over the last year or so. I generally
have watched it by weighing myself daily and adjusting what I am
eating or drinking to nip it in the bud as it were… I know that
others have said there is a point when the honeymoon is over and
losing is just plain work just like it used to be. I know I have
entered that phase. I am currently up 10 pounds higher than I would
like. I am still within "goal" that my dr set but I am not happy with
the way my clothes fit so I am actually going to go back and go to
weight watchers. 10 - 20 pounds is doable whereas 150 not so
overwhelming. Another cause of gains is depression. Do a check of
yourself. Write down everything you are eating.. why are you
eating… when are you eating. Make sure you are not
"self-medicating" with food. I know that not everyone does this but
it can be a possiblity with some people. And my last bit of advice…
liquid calories can be deadly. They go down really easy. They don’t
fill you up. Are you drinking enough water? Are you drinking coffee
with cream? Starbucks runs? I don’t have a magic answer but maybe
some of these questions can help out if you do some self evaluation.

Do you have any support system at home? I know it is very hard for
people to make that break from old cycles… it is in any circumstance
and it is even harder if you don’t have a support system in place or
if the support system that you have is just not working for you. Do
you have someone that can kinda check in with you? It isn’t always
fun for us to have to check in fwith people… we are after all
practically perfect in every way! but I know for me.. I have to have
someone that I can come completely clean with and isn’t afraid to
say… Hello… what are you doing… why are you doing this. And
hold me to account for the decisions I am making. If you have someone
you may need to tell them how hard it is and how you are stuggling…
if you don’t have someone I would encourage you to find someone not
aftaid to confront you, that you can’t hide info from. You have made
a huge decision to have a life changing surgery. Old habit die hard
and sometimes they don’t die. They need to be held into check! We
are not always strong enough to do that on our own. We need friends
that we can turn to that can be totally honest with us and we need to
be completely honest and vulnerable to them. Vulerability is hard!
People take advantage. But you have to have someone to put on the
stops if you don’t feel like you can take on that role at this time.
It doesn’t mean that you will never be able to do it on your own… it
just means right now you have your hands full and you need a little
help. I hope I am not offending. I just know from experience,
everyone can use a little outside help now and again, to be the strong
person when we are not all that strong. Please feel free to contact
me if you feel you need some extra encouragement. I am not part of
your "daily" activity so I can not help you at a level of being
totally honest and really accounting for choices but I am sympathetic
and can cheerlead for you, as I am sure that others on this board are
willing and happy to do as well.

Hi, terry. I totally understand - all my weight has been sugar
related.. I hit the honeymoon phase and during that time I didn’t react
to sugar - did to milk, but not to sugar. Milk would make me sicker n’ a
dawg. Ice cream is a thing of the past. Unfortunately chocolate,
caramel, nougat and bit-o-honeys did not do the same thing. So, for
about six months I hung out at my lowest weight, even with the sugar.
But then it started taking its toll. I’m also a grazer and
stress-eater. None of which help this particular journey. At least I’m
learning a lot about myself (more than I wanted to know LOL).

thanks for your support ya know i think that you are right. i have alot going on
and i do feel i eat out of boredom depression and the usual suspects. i was very
excited to do this surgery and was hoping for great success. i lost a total of
120 lbs but now have gained the 20 back and it is extremely hard to get rid of
it at this time. i just had a hysterectomy and i sat home not being able to lift
anything over 5 lbs for 21/2 mos. but i hope to keep in touch with the group at
this time i think i really need it at this point in my life. i think i may have
had some extreme expectations when i had my surgery but have come back to
reality again . well happy rebirthday to you on june 16. my surgery was june
17th 2004. take care terry b

I am sure you all are probably aware of this but I thought I would
thow it out there just in case. There is a website called
obesityhelp.com… There is a group of wls people who are having some
success with what they are calling a "reset" program. They are using
protein drinks and basically going back to the initial liquid diet
that we were on when we first had our surgery. Staying at or under
700 calories a day. One gal said that after the initial 3 days she was
no longer even feeling hungry at all. Another said that once she
started putting solids back in she found that she at least "felt" like
her pouch had shrunk back to the original surgery size. She was
unable to eat very much at all. Now… I don’t know if any of these
things actually work. I am not a Dr, Nurse, Nutritionist, or anything
else. I just thought that if you were interested you might want to
research this for yourselves, and talk with your Dr. before you try
anything like this and make sure your labs are okay and you don’t have
any other medical conditions that may be effected with something like
this. One of the gals is actually being overseen on this "reset"
program by her surgeon.

surgeon that did my surgery does not see any gbp patients any longer as they do
not let him do the surgery any longer due to complications and the unfortunate
death of a patient. after awhile they stopped the support groups also. i do see
some people occasionally from the group and quite a few have put on some weight.

A word to the wise, though, the grads list is a big list and has LOTS of
posts, so if you only are up for 1-2 posts a day, I’d suggest you join
and set yourself up for no-mail and go in and read what you want from
the website, rather than messages sent to your box.

I agree with Pam… The e-mails are unbelieveable. I read them from

the site. Oh and just for clairification… the KarenB plan that was
mentioned in the previous post is not me. I am a KarenB but not that
KarenB.
