It’s not uncommon to feel "down" after surgery. For one thing, you’re
losing weight quickly, so that means there’s a lot of estrogen (which is
stored in fat) floating in the system. It’s enough to make you very
PMSy, even if you aren’t PM. Also, if you’ve used food in the past for
anything psychological (as we all have, pretty much), you’ve lost that
"prop" - which can cause you to grieve. This, too, shall pass. I hope
you find a lot of like souls at the support group. <G>

Hi, I too had my surgery this year. June 18th. I have had a lot of downs. My
father passed away 2 days before my surgery. I did not want to tell the surgeon
in fear that he would have postponed the surgery and you know how much you
mentally have to get prepared to have it. I would have a few drinks on fridays
to unwind and used to smoke prior to surgery. I have no out let. I can’t eat
drink or smoke. I am having problems with my 12 year old son and I have been
very down. Prozac helps and I am starting to talk to someone. The weight and
eating is going well in spite of it all. The support groups are too far away.
That is why I joined on line. Thanks for listening

    Chrissy,

In what area do you live? I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.
Just try your best not to associate the sadness that you are experiencing over
the loss of your father with your WLS. Granted just having the WLS alone can
lead to severe depression, now you are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Mt
heart goes out to you, hang in there, you will pull through this and be stronger
than you ever imagined in the end! My thoughts and prayers are with you and
hey… keep your chin up… I promise you things will get better.

I live in Albion, NY. Which is half way between Buffalo and Rochester. Most
support groups are in the big cities. I am hanging in there thank you for your
    support
