<description>I live in Albion, NY. Which is half way between Buffalo and Rochester. Most
support groups are in the big cities. I am hanging in there thank you for your

		<description>Chrissy,

In what area do you live? I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.
Just try your best not to associate the sadness that you are experiencing over
the loss of your father with your WLS. Granted just having the WLS alone can
lead to severe depression, now you are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Mt
heart goes out to you, hang in there, you will pull through this and be stronger
than you ever imagined in the end! My thoughts and prayers are with you and
hey... keep your chin up... I promise you things will get better.

Hi, I too had my surgery this year. June 18th. I have had a lot of downs. My
father passed away 2 days before my surgery. I did not want to tell the surgeon
in fear that he would have postponed the surgery and you know how much you
mentally have to get prepared to have it. I would have a few drinks on fridays
to unwind and used to smoke prior to surgery. I have no out let. I can't eat
&lt;!--more--&gt;
drink or smoke. I am having problems with my 12 year old son and I have been
very down. Prozac helps and I am starting to talk to someone. The weight and
eating is going well in spite of it all. The support groups are too far away.
That is why I joined on line. Thanks for listening

<description>It's not uncommon to feel &#34;down&#34; after surgery. For one thing, you're
losing weight quickly, so that means there's a lot of estrogen (which is
stored in fat) floating in the system. It's enough to make you very
PMSy, even if you aren't PM. Also, if you've used food in the past for
anything psychological (as we all have, pretty much), you've lost that
&#34;prop&#34; - which can cause you to grieve. This, too, shall pass. I hope
you find a lot of like souls at the support group. &#60;G&#62;

		<description>Welcome, Jenny.
It's a big step, and in many ways will change your life. Many docs
aren't really on top of our nutritional needs post surgery, so you will
need to take ultimate responsibility for yours after the surgery,
supplementing with protein and vitamins and minerals, and learning
exactly what has happened inside your body. Once you know that, then
you can read up on what gets digested where, and you will begin to see
why the protein and other supplements are so important.

After your surgery, you will be surprised at how little you can eat, and
how lessened your appetite is. That lasts from 6 months to a year and is
the honeymoon period. Take advantage of it to lose all the weight you
can by exercising and not testing out things like your reaction to sugar
and milk, etc. I've gained back almost 30 lbs, and it's almost all from
sugar - so I speak from (sadly earned) experience.
&lt;!--more--&gt;

The RNY is only a help, it's not the whole story &#60;G&#62;.

If you have any questions, please let us know. A lot of us have BTDT
and have the t-shirt. I've been deficient in iron, D (which didn't help
my osteoporosis) and most recently A vitamins. Those blood tests are
important. Don't know how they do it in New Zealand....

<description>hi i am from New Zealand. i am currently going through a long wait to
have a gastric bypass op through our public health system. i first
asked my Dr about it in june 2005 and i am still in the process but
hopefully getting there slowly. my heaviest has been 166kgs , i have
managed to get 10 kgs off over last 3 months but still feeling very fat
and having to struggle with many health issues because of it. I would
appreciate any encouragement you post op ones can give me.</description>

<description>I agree with Pam... The e-mails are unbelieveable. I read them from
the site. Oh and just for clairification... the KarenB plan that was
mentioned in the previous post is not me. I am a KarenB but not that
KarenB.

;-)

<description>A word to the wise, though, the grads list is a big list and has LOTS of
posts, so if you only are up for 1-2 posts a day, I'd suggest you join
and set yourself up for no-mail and go in and read what you want from
the website, rather than messages sent to your box.
